Georgia Tech transfer defensive lineman Eddie Kelly committed to Missouri Wednesday, he announced via social media. He began his career at USF before joining the Yellow Jackets last year out of the transfer portal.

Kelly appeared in 13 games at Georgia Tech in 2023, including five starts. He totaled 38 tackles during that time, including 5.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He had one of his biggest games in November against Clemson when he had nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Prior to his time at Georgia Tech, Kelly played in 11 games at USF, where he had 19 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss as a freshman.

Kelly played high school football at Jones (Fla.) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 773 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Missouri has been active in the transfer portal this offseason and entered Wednesday ranked No. 8 in the On3 Team Transfer Portal Index. Eddie Kelly is the Tigers’ 14th commitment out of the portal, including former Michigan linebacker signee Jeremiah Beasley. The headliner of the transfer class is former Oklahoma offensive lineman Cayden Green – the No. 13 overall player and No. 2-ranked offensive tackle in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

Missouri is coming off an impressive season in 2023 to secure an appearance in the Cotton Bowl against Ohio State. The Tigers went 10-2 during the regular season and eventually defeated the Buckeyes to clinch their first 11-win season in a decade.

Transfer portal window winding down

The spring transfer portal window is just 15 days from April 16-30, a crammed period that could reshape the 2024 college football offseason. The portal tool launched in 2018 to allow athletes to be more involved in the process of transferring. Athletes must notify institutions of their intent to transfer. Each school’s compliance team has 48 hours to put a name into the portal.

After an athlete is officially in the portal, there is no rush on making a decision as long as they are properly enrolled at a new institution in time for fall camp. Commitments do not have to be made during the 15-day window.
