Darryn Peterson, the No. 1 ranked shooting guard in the 2025 class, is planning to visit the following schools during the months of August and September, according to his father: Kentucky, Louisville, USC, and Washington.

Peterson, a Five-Star Plus+ recruit, recently tripped to Kansas for an official visit and is scheduled to officially visit Ohio State on August 1st.

A native of Canton, Ohio, Darryn Peterson is the No. 3 ranked recruit in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Huntington Prep (WV) discussed several schools involved in his recruitment in a previous interview with On3.

Peterson talks programs involved

North Carolina: “I’m just trying to see what it’s like down there. I watched some games this year. But I’ve been waiting to get an official visit for a while. (Their message) is to come there, get prepared for the NBA.” When asked what stands out about UNC, he replied: “RJ Davis, how ball dominant he was and how he got to hoop this year. I feel like if I got the ball, play the one spot too, we can have similar college games.”

Kentucky: “I recently got re-offered by coach (Mark) Pope. I might go visit there again too. The same thing stands, they still want me. He’s watched some stuff and they want me and they’re interested too. I’m tuned into Kentucky this year, I didn’t really watch BYU too much.”

Arkansas: “I talked to coach Chin and coach Cal at Arkansas. I’m pretty sure I’ll go visit that school too. (Cal) told me that he’s got a new job but nothing changes and that they still want me. Coach Cal gets his guards and their dominating the league right now. A lot of the guards that are dominating, he had and they played for him. (Cal) asks me if I want to be an All-Star, do I want a max contract, and stuff like that and he’s had guys that have done that so that’s pretty promising.”

Ohio State: “They’ve been getting guys. With coach Diebler being the head coach now, that’s who I’ve been talking to the most. He’s been recruiting me since I was young. The relationship is there. I’m feeling them too, I’m feeling them a lot.”

Kansas: “I’ll take an official visit there soon too. (Coach Self) is my guy. They’ve been watching me since freshman year. They tell me just to keep getting better and that if I go there, be prepared. They want me, they’re interested in me, and they feel like its the best place for me to go. I like how they run their sets. I like a coach that runs sets, but doesn’t overcoach. When it gets to crunch time, he lets his guards go and they figure it out.”

Scouting Report

“Darryn Peterson has a basketball player’s frame; long arms with broad shoulders. He is a smooth player with the ball in his hands. Comfortable handling in the half and the full court. Peterson can get downhill and touch the paint where he is a crafty finisher at the rim. He also has the explosion to dunk, in traffic. The jump shot needs to continue to develop as he is currently a streaky shooter from beyond the arc. Peterson creates offense for himself, already at a high rate. There is more growth and upside to go as he tracks as one of the nation’s top prospects in his class.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
