Texas A&M is looking to pull 2023 Austin (Tex.) Westlake four-star offensive lineman T.J Shanahan away from Texas, Miami and LSU, among a number of other suitors.

As it stands, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine states that Texas A&M leads the way in his recruitment with a 46.1% shot to land the versatile lineman, who originally hails from Florida. LSU trails the Aggies with a 23.4% chance to land Shanahan.

Though Florida and UCF are both listed as contenders in his recruitment, he’s only been hearing from one school from his native state

“Miami’s probably the only school that I would go to if I went back down there,” Shanahan told On3’s Mike Singer recently. “I haven’t really heard from Florida or FSU that much.”

Shanahan last visited College Station for the Aggies’ Junior Day in late January, his third visit in the last year, and will likely host the four-star at least once more this offseason. 6-foot-4, 332-pounder is one of two in-state offensive lineman that Texas A&M commit Colton Thomasson is working on to join him in College Station, along with fellow four-star Harris Sewell out of Odessa (Tex.) Permian.

Shanahan recently named six schools that have been in contact with him the most: GeorgiaLSUMiamiNorth CarolinaTexas A&M and USC. He added that he’s hoping to try and swing visits to Notre Dame, Georgia, Miami and LSU in the not-so-distant future.

Out-of-state suitors continue to pose the biggest threat to the Aggies, while Texas appears to be fading a bit in Shanahan’s recruitment. Landing Shanahan out of Austin Westlake would establish the Aggies in enemy territory, with a chance to capitalize on a loaded cycle in Central Texas. Texas A&M is involved in the recruitment of Shanahan’s teammate four-star EDGE Colton Vasek, who isn’t necessarily a lock to land at Texas, as well as Austin Vandegrift four-star offensive lineman Ian Reed, who visited College Station for the first time earlier this week, Del Valle four-star wide receiver Braylon James, Marlin four-star EDGE Derion Gullette and Harker Heights four-star offensive lineman Jaydon Chatman.

The Aggies have some work to do with all targets mentioned, but landing Shanahan would go a long ways in establishing the Aggies in Central Texas.

Shanahan ranks as the the No. 104 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 7 offensive lineman and the No. 18 prospect in the Lone Star State. The four-star has an NIL Valuation of $13.4K. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
