Phil Steele names Preseason All-SEC Team ahead of 2024 college football season

Alex Weberby:Alex Weber06/25/24

The SEC will be littered with stars in 2024, no doubt, and before the season gets underway here in a couple of months, it’s time to take a look at some preseason All-SEC projections.

College football magazine mogul Phil Steele is always an authority on the sport, especially when it comes to his preseason predictions. As is typically the case, for the 2024 issue, Steele extensively broke down the top players in the SEC, producing a mammoth FOUR full All-SEC teams for the 2024 season. But with 16 teams now, he had no trouble filling the spots.

So below, you can see what Phil Steele’s full set of All-SEC teams looks like for the 2024 season:

Carson Beck leads the way and is Steele’s No. 1 Heisman contender. Of course, the rest of the first team is also littered with future first round picks like the mammoth DL for Kentucky, Deone Walker, as well as a potential top-five pick in Tennessee’s James Pearce.

The whole defense is just full of stars. Danny Stutsman is an icon on campus in Norman, Harold Landry has always been touted as one of the best all-around defensive talents in the sport, and Billy Bowman and Malaki Starks are very possible All-Americans at their spot this season.

The quarterback selections are most interesting here with only one on each team and so many talented arms across the league. Following the perhaps controversial choice of Beck as the SEC’s QB1, Steele goes with the terrific athlete in Milroe next.

Elsewhere, South Carolina may not have Spencer Rattler any longer, but they still have plenty of weapons. The nicknamed duo of “Juice” Wells and “Rocket” Sanders gives Shane Beamer plenty to work with around a new quarterback.

Third Team

Quinn Ewers is one of the favorites to be the top quarterback taken off the board next spring, but he’s still just the All-SEC Third Team quarterback for Phil Steele. It’s just a tough draw in the SEC.

Ole Miss really came on strong defensively here, placing three players on the All-Defensive Third Team. Meanwhile, they also had a Second Team cornerback and a First Team defensive lineman. Don’t count out the defensive side of the ball in Oxford.

Fourth Team

Poor Jaxso Dart rates as one of Phil Steele’s top-10 Heisman contenders, yet barely makes any of the four All-SEC teams despite returning for his third season as starter coming off a 10-2 regular season for the Rebels which featured losses only to Georgia and Alabama.

The Rebels also added another defensive player to the All-SEC teams, making it six total defenders from Ole Miss on the list. They may not be the leaders among total players on the All-SEC teams, but they certainly represented well.
