Spencer Ahrens is the No. 117 player in the 2025 On3 150. The 6-foot-9 Canadian forward burst on the scene last year after scoring 53 points in an Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association league game. He transferred this season to play in the Nike EYBL Scholastic League with Bel Aire (KS) Sunrise Christian.

“I’m trying to be a winner, so whatever my team needs,” Ahrens told On3. “I can stretch the floor, and shoot it, put the ball on the floor, and rebound. Really, I’m trying to step into whatever role my team needs. I can tell the work I’ve done to get my body right, I’m moving better, and more athletic.”

On3 caught up with Spencer Ahrens after a recent live viewing at The Bash XI to get the latest update on his recruitment.

“I haven’t taken any official visits yet, and I don’t have any set,” Ahrens said. “I’ve taken an unofficial visit to Michigan.”

Ahrens Dives Into Michigan

“They had crazy facilities, they were really awesome,” Ahrens said. “The coaching staff was great. They showed that they really cared about their players. They showed me a lot of the players they have produced that are the same player type as me. That was good to see their plan for me and how they could take my game to the next level.

“That team really fits well with how I play and for my position. They like forwards who can stretch the floor and rebound, which plays my role.”

Ahrens talks Recruitment

“I have offers from Missouri, Nebraska, Georgetown, Xavier, and some others,” Ahrens said.

NEBRASKA: “They’re close by to Kansas, where my school is. Their play style fits my position and how I play. They are in the Big Ten, a good conference. They have good shooters and they like to stretch the floor. Coach (Fred) Hoiberg has been in the NBA and coached in the NBA. He’s coached and developed players like me.”

XAVIER: “Coach (Sean) Miller has coached a lot of guys, like Lauri Markanen, who have similar play styles to me. He has had a lot of success and he knows what it takes to get to the next level, and that is very intriguing.”

GEORGETOWN: “They’re a very high academic school, which is one of the reasons they are sticking out. I am very high on academics and I am making that a big point for my future.”

MISSOURI: “They like that I can stretch the floor and what my skill brings. They play a fast-paced style with a lot of scoring. They’re telling me how I fit in with their offense and how they want to play.”

“I’ve got a lot of schools who are just starting to talk with me,” Ahrens said. “So we will see how those conversations go.”

At the End of the Day

“I don’t have a particular time frame for when I want to start taking visits,” Spencer Ahrens said. “Maybe toward the end of the season, I’m trying to focus on the season right now. Getting better each day.

“I don’t care about the location of the school, I’m really looking at the best fit. I want to play for a team and a style that will fit me best. And play for a coach that fits my style. I want to have a good relationship with the coach and trust. A coach that knows what it takes to get me to the next level and someone that I mesh well with.

“I am most comfortable in a quick-paced offense. A lot of catch-and-shoots and pick-and-pops where they want their fours to space the floor. Not necessarily a lot of set offenses, but a lot of motion and reads.
