Transfer Portal: The top ten available point guards currently in the portal

The college basketball Transfer Portal closes today and already over 2,000 players have entered for this cycle. With over 500 players committed, and more coming by the hour, there are still a lot of talented players left on the board.

As we have seen in years past, guard play wins in March. So let’s take a look through the Transfer Portal at the top point guards who are still available. It is worth reiterating, that these are not the top overall point guards, but the top ten who are currently uncommitted in the Transfer Portal.

1. Javon Small, Oklahoma State

Javon Small is listed at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds. He started his career at East Carolina where he started 17 of his 34 games played. This season, Small averaged 15.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while shooting 37.4 percent from three. Small, a junior, is originally from the Indianapolis, Indiana area.

2. Max Shulga, VCU

Max Shulga is listed at 6-foot-4 and 197 pounds. He started his career at Utah State where he started 37 career games, and played in 90 through his three seasons. This year, Shulga averaged 14.0 points, 3.6 assists, and shot 41.5 percent from three for VCU earning first-team All-A10 honors. Shulga, a grad transfer, is originally from Ukraine

3. Kadary Richmond, Seton Hall

Kadary Richmond is listed at 6-foot-5 and 180 pounds. He started his career at Syracuse where he started three of the 28 games he played in as a freshman. Richmond has started 85 of the 94 games he has played over his three seasons at Seton Hall. This year, he averaged 15.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. Richmond, a grad transfer, is originally from New York.

4. Deivon Smith, Utah

Deivon Smith is listed as 6-foot-1 and 173 pounds. He started his career at Mississippi State, where he stayed for a season before transferring to Georgia Tech. This season, Smith averaged 13.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game while leading the Pac-12 in assists at 7.1 per game. Smith, a grad transfer, is originally from Georgia.

5. Posh Alexander, Butler

Posh Alexander is listed at 6-foot-0 and 205 pounds. He started his career at St. John’s where he won Big East Defensive Player of the Year. In 77 starts over 84 total games, Alexander averaged 2.2 steals. This season, his first at Butler, he averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. Alexander a grad transfer, is originally from New York.

6. DJ Wagner, Kentucky

DJ Wagner is listed at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds. In 29 games and 28 starts this season at Kentucky, the former Five-Star Plus+ recruit averaged 9.9 points and 3.3 assists per game. Wagner, a freshman, is originally from Camden, New Jersey. His dad is former Memphis guard and NBA Draft Lottery Pick Dajuan Wagner.

7. AJ Hoggard, Michigan State

AJ Hoggard is listed at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds. The former four-star recruit has played all four seasons at Michigan State, starting 83 of 131 games played. This season, Hoggard averaged 10.7 points and 5.2 assists while shooting a career-best 34.7 percent from three. Hoggard, a grad transfer, is originally from the Coatesville, Pennsylvania area.

8. Derin Saran, UC Irvine

Derin Saran is listed at 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds. This season, he played in all 31 games, averaging 19.1 minutes. Saran averaged 10.1 points and 1.6 assists while shooting 34.9 percent from three. Saran, a freshman, is originally from Turkey.

9. Quadir Copeland, Syracuse

Quadir Copeland is listed at 6-foot-6 and 200 pounds. The former four-star recruit has played in 52 games over his two seasons at Syracuse, starting one. This season, Copeland averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Copeland, a sophomore is originally from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area.

10. Devon Barnes, Tarleton State

Devon Barnes is listed at 6-foot-0 and 171 pounds. He started his career at Triton College, a junior college in Illinois, where he averaged 15.3 points on 41.3 percent shooting from three. This season, Barnes averaged 13.0 points and 2.2 assists while shooting 39.7 percent from three for Tarleton State. Barnes, a sophomore, is originally from Georgia.
