The Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams seem to be on the same page in terms of the future of the franchise. Williams recently spoke to Bears host Jeff Joniak and was asked about the culture of the Bears heading into the 2024 season.

“They want to win,” Williams said. “They’re excited about winning and getting the right people here. For the culture is really important to them and just having guys that want to win and play ball.”

Williams was then asked how he leads the franchise to their goals. “The first part of it is I have to come in and do my job,” Williams explained. “I have to learn all their names, everybody in the facility. And then I have to do my job and learn the playbook the best of my ability.

“Half of it is knowing it and doing my job and the other half is going out there and showing my guys that I’m the player that I am. That’s my mindset and where I’m planning on going and how I’m planning on doing it and lead my guys. From there, I can take other steps, but they have to see it first, especially coming from a young guy.”

Caleb Williams is hard at work learning the playbook

Speaking of the playbook, Williams’ private QB coach Will Hewlett appeared on Chicago’s 670 The Score and said the former USC Trojans QB has been studying the playbook for weeks.

“I have pieces (of the playbook). I don’t have the plays,” Hewlett said. “I could have the plays and would that really help because there’s so many other layers that go into having a successful football play work? But we have the basic route concepts in terms of depths and timing, and then how that matches together.”

Hewlett continued: “The NFL is somewhat of a copycat league within the systems that are run. So there’s stuff that we were already working on that it was just given a different name, instead of a pivot route, it’s a thunder route, or whatever the case may be … I have Shane Waldron terminology.”

It sounds like Williams is doing everything he can to have success with the Bears quickly. NFL.com recently released the 10 NFL rookies who are in the best situation to succeed in their first year and beyond, and Williams made the top of the list. Williams will have plenty of weapons to work with as the team drafted wide receiver Rome Odunze and signed running back D’Andre Swift. The Bears also have top veteran receivers Keenan Allen and DJ Moore.
