Last Monday after the Dover race, Daniel Suárez took his U.S. citizenship exam. Good news, he passed the exam! The NASCAR driver is now on his way to being a dual citizen between the USA and Mexico.

For the last 12 years, Daniel Suárez has lived in the United States. Now, he’s finally going to be a citizen. It’s an exciting time for him. He has that win from Atlanta, his ticket to the playoffs this season, and now he’s going to be a U.S. citizen.

The Trackhouse Racing driver spoke with Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports about the exam and how it feels to have passed it.

“Something I did notice was that most people there were going with their families,” Suárez said. “Like it was a big deal. For example, if I was going to do this deal, my wife was going to be there or my son or somebody because when I left the place, I was very excited because I passed and everything, I didn’t have anyone to hug. And all the rest of the people, their families were waiting outside so I thought it was pretty neat, you know, that a lot of the other people that were there they were all super excited and very happy.”

As for his Mexican citizenship, he isn’t giving it up. Daniel Suárez wanted to clear up any confusion about it.

“Some people actually you know, it’s very good for the Americans over here who are very happy for me because they have been following me for more than ten years and they know how long it can be, this process. So that has been a lot of fun. I have actually been a little bit surprised that some people have been confused with the situation of me being a dual citizen. Some people thought that I was giving up my Mexican citizenship which is not the case. Only difference now is I’m going to have two passports instead of one and I’m going to have dual citizenship.

“It’s good. It’s definitely very good. It was time, you know, I’ve been here in this country already for twelve years, so, it’s my home now. This country has given me so much and I’m very very happy here.”

Daniel Suárez is going to be a U.S. citizen. The next time he wins a race could be his first as an official American. A long road to get there, but one I’m sure has been well worth it. Hopefully, Suárez can follow it up with a good run at Kansas.
