The Los Angeles Lakers are moving on from head coach Darvin Ham, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski.

“BREAKING: The Los Angeles Lakers dismissed coach Darvin Ham, sources tell ESPN. In two seasons, Ham was 90-74 with a Western Conference Finals berth, two Play-In victories and an In-Season title. Lakers lost in five games to Denver in opening-round,” Woj posted on Twitter.

Darvin Ham spent only two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers after being hired away from the Milwaukee Bucks where he was working as an assistant.

Ham helped the Bucks to the 2021 NBA championship.

The Lakers finished seventh in the West each of the past two seasons. Los Angeles went on a run all the way to the Western Conference finals in 2023, before being swept by the Nuggets.

They lost to the Nuggets in five games in 2024, leading to Los Angeles moving on from Ham.

The Lakers were led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis last season.

Fellow NBA insider Shams Charania also reported that Darvin Ham has been fired and listed some potential replacements.

“The Los Angeles Lakers have parted ways with coach Darvin Ham, and sources tell me and
@jovanbuha an extensive search will commence soon, with candidates such as Mike Budenholzer, Kenny Atkinson, JJ Redick and, if he becomes available, Ty Lue among others,” Shams posted.

Lakers have interest in drafting Bronny James to pair with father LeBron

LeBron James is reportedly going to become a free agent this summer now that the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from the playoffs.

As far as his future and his son Bronny James’ basketball future, the two could come together. Where might you ask? Los Angeles, according to Shams Charania.

According to Charania, LA is very interested in giving LeBron whatever he wants to finish his career with the Lakers and Bronny could play a factor in those discussions.

“His option date is June 29th and guys, this is interesting because June 29th is after the NBA draft and right before free agency,” Charania said on The Pat McAfee Show. “LeBron James will have all the answers he needs to have by that point. What happens with his son, Bronny James, if he does stay in the draft? Another thing I reported and we reported, the Lakers very much have interest in drafting Bronny James.

“They know LeBron James has spoken on the record about wanting to play with Bronny and at the end of the day, he wants the best for Bronny.”
