It was a great weekend for the University of Alabama as it received two commitments, both entering their junior season this fall. Jamarrion Gordon, four-star cornerback from Jackson High School in Ala., committed to Alabama on Saturday morning. Dorian Barney, No. 3 cornerback per On3 Sports, announced a surprise commitment 25 hours later.

Barney earned an offer from Alabama during his first visit to the Capstone on March 6. He also returned to Tuscaloosa for another visit on March 28. Barney released a top 12 in April. He recently mentioned Alabama, Colorado, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State and USC as the main contenders.

“Why I chose them is because of the connections and the development,” Barney told On3 Sports regarding his commitment to the Crimson Tide. “They are developing players, they have developed them in the past and they will continue to do so in the upcoming years. Also, it is about the relationships that I have with all the coaches.”

Barney pulls Alabama surprise

Barney enjoyed seeing the Tide in action earlier this spring in the new look defense, and overall program under Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer. He was recruited by Coach Mo Linguist and defensive coordinator Kane Wommack.

“I really like Bama,” Barney told On3 Sports earlier this spring. “I like how coach Maurice Linguist coaches his defensive backs. That’s very big for me, so I could picture myself playing for him one day. Another thing that I liked… is how competitive their practice is. Everyone is working, and they finish every rep as of what I saw.”
