Jamarrion Harkless no longer is committed to Auburn.

Harkless, a big defensive lineman from Frederick Douglass in Lexington, Ky., announced Sunday that he’s reopening his recruitment.

The announcement comes two days after Hugh Freeze was hired to replace Bryan Harsin as Auburn’s head coach. It also comes one day after defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh was informed by Freeze that he would not be retained.

Harkless had been committed to Auburn since September.

Harkless is ranked No. 759 overall in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally-weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks the No. 79 defensive lineman in the country and No. 5 overall recruit in Kentucky.

His de-commitment is the second for Auburn since Freeze was hired.

Four-star wide receiver Adam Hopkins on Thursday also reopened his recruitment. Auburn now has 11 commitments in its 2023 recruiting class.

The early signing period starts Wednesday, Dec. 21.

The Harkless File

From Auburn Live’s Cole Pinkston..

Harkless is 6-foot-4 315 pounds and carries his weight well. With big legs and broad shoulders Harkless is already well-developed with a strong frame for the interior defensive line.

To be a heavier lineman, he is able to burst well out his three-point stance. When he approaches a blocker, his hands are active as they are supposed to be.

Harkless plays with great effort which at times supersedes his overall ability. He is not overly fast, but looks quicker due to how hard he plays each snap. When he gets the chance to show his raw power, he can do so with strong hands and good drive from his hips.
