Another big-time domino has fallen for Georgia on the offensive line. The Bulldogs landed Daniel Calhoun (Walton; Marietta, Ga.) on Wednesday, giving them four pledges along the offensive front in the 2024 class.
Calhoun is Georgia’s second four-star commitment at that position in the past five days. Michael Uini (Copperas Cove, Tex.) joined the class on Friday. Before that the Bulldogs had Malachi Toliver (Cartersville, Ga.) and Marcus Harrison (Athol, N.Y.) in the fold.
The 6-foot-6 355-pound Calhoun has held a Georgia offer since the eighth grade. It’s not often that players get offers at that age and it’s even less common that they progress to the point that the offer still stands four years later. One look at Calhoun’s junior film shows why he was a major target for Georgia, Alabama, Texas, and dozens of other programs.
The On3 Industry Ranking, which is a weighted average of the ratings compiled from all four recruiting coverage websites, views Calhoun as the nation’s No. 116 overall prospect. He’s considered the No. 7 interior offensive lineman in the country and the No. 17 player in Georgia.
Calhoun feels “at home” in Athens…
While Calhoun calls the Peach State home and the Bulldogs have long held the lead for his services, he wasn’t exactly dead set on staying in-state. He’s an Alabama legacy with his father, Vincent, having played there.
His older brothers played at Minnesota and Wake Forest and Calhoun took visits to a number of different programs. Miami made an early move for him. Texas recruited him heavily and the Crimson Tide were in it until the end.
Georgia’s recent success on the offensive line, however, played a massive role.
“Their development is crazy,” Calhoun told On3’s Chad Simmons. “They send a ton of guys to the NFL every year and I also have a great relationship with the players and coaches. I get along with players like their my brothers and the coaching staff has really connected with my family.
“I talk to the players there a few times a week now. It already feels like home.”
