You’re almost there football fans. Just 9 days until the Georgia Bulldogs take the trip down 316 toward the Benz for the touted matchup with Dan Lanning and the Ducks of Oregon that everyone has been long waiting for.

And today, we’re thinking of one of those new pups on the roster who’ll be sporting the No. 9 so long carried by Ameer Speed (have fun with Mel Tucker, young man).

Jaheim Singletary was Georgia’s fourth highest-rated recruit in the Class of 2022 and easily one of the targets most coveted by the Dawgs throughout the cycle.

A Consensus five-star prospect ranked as the nation’s No. 26 overall player and No. 4 cornerback, Singletary brings a unique combo of size and skill to the cornerback position.

On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power said of Singletary in his scouting report:

“A tall, lean ball-hawking cornerback. Uses his 6-foot-2.5 stature, 33-inch arms and bouncy athleticism to make plays on the ball at a high rate. Looks like a wide receiver playing corner when the ball is in the air with his ability to extend and high-point. Unsurprisingly also doubles as a talented wide receiver for his high school team. Plays with physicality both as a run defender and in press situations. Has above average, not great long speed for the position. Grew over an inch between his junior and senior years.”

On3 ended up comparing Singletary to former Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick, noting he is a “jumbo-sized, long and thin cornerback who due to his length and aggressive nature, similar to Dre Kirkpatrick at the same stage.”

So, the reviews are glowing, and the Dawgs are certainly happy to have him.

It wasn’t always looking that way, though.

Singletary, who calls Jacksonville, Florida home, was a former Ohio State commit, having pledged his services to the Buckeyes in January of 2021.

Georgia and Florida never relented, however, and the Gators were considered a threat for some time.

Ultimately, however, he would find Athens was home.

Shoutout to Coach Boom for making the decision easier.

Will Muschamp (defensive analyst) has been recruiting me since my freshman year,” Singletary told Chad Simmons upon committing to the Bulldogs. “South Carolina was one of my first offers, and he was the head coach there…Coach Muschamp going to Georgia was big. I already liked them, but I liked them, even more, when he got there. He is big in my interest in Georgia.”

Expectations are always high for the five-star guys, and with Singletary’s size, look for the Bulldogs to try to work him in early and often, as he’ll likely be expected to hold down a corner spot in the future.
