Who’s ready for some Friday afternoon baseball? Game time for Kentucky’s series opener vs. Florida has been moved up due to bad weather forecasted for the Gainesville area on Friday evening. First pitch will now take place at 1 p.m. ET instead of 6:30 p.m. The game will still stream live on SEC Network+. Saturday and Sunday’s games are still scheduled to begin at noon, both airing on SEC Network.

Kentucky is up to No. 4 in the rankings and sits atop the SEC standings with an 18-6 conference record (35-10 overall). The Cats have a one-game lead over Tennessee and Arkansas. Florida is tied with Alabama for ninth in the standings at 10-14 (25-23 overall). The Gators are coming off a win over USF on Tuesday and a series loss vs. Tennessee last weekend.

Obviously, a series win over the Gators would go a long way to helping the Cats secure the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament and a top-eight seed in the NCAA Tournament, which would mean hosting a Super Regional. Yesterday, Kentucky was the projected No. 1 overall seed in D1 Baseball’s Field of 64 predictions, which shows you just how significant the series win over Arkansas was.

The Cats can build on that momentum this weekend in Gainesville and next week at home vs. Wright State and Vanderbilt, the latter the final series of the regular season (tickets still available). Even if the Cats just land in the top eight of the NCAA Tournament field, they’ll be playing all of their games at Kentucky Proud Park for the chance to advance to the College World Series for the first time. You can’t ask for much more than that.

The fine folks at Kentucky Sports Video put together this recap of the Arkansas series, which is the perfect way to get ready for this weekend’s big series.

After you’re done with that, watch KSR’s new baseball show, “Bat Cat Beat.” Yesterday Daniel Hager and special guest Kentucky Kernel writer Jonathon Bruner recapped the series win over Arkansas and looked ahead to the Florida series.
