No school! Paris, KY gives kids Monday off for Super Bowl weekend

Getting up and moving the Monday after Super Bowl Sunday is always a drag. It’s an annual tradition. They don’t call it “Super Sick Monday” for nothing, a day football fans across America magically develop a rare case of gluteus glaucoma — can’t see their butts leaving the house.

Paris Independent Schools kept that in mind and made the executive decision to cancel school entirely. The school board unanimously approved the holiday for kids, allowing them to stay up late and enjoy their Super Bowl Sunday without worrying about that obnoxious alarm waking them up early the next morning.

“This’ll be an opportunity. Hopefully, it’s a great game and we can stay up and watch the entire game, the commercials, Taylor Swift sightings.” Paris Independent Superintendent Stephen McCauley told LEX18. “Whatever you’re looking for, why you’re watching. It has landed pretty well.”

It’s the first year this holiday will go into effect to set up the extended weekend of football.

“I do think it’s something our parents and families appreciate,” he added. “We try to be innovative in the things we do with our staff and students, try to think about things differently. This is just another way we can accommodate family schedules and better fit what they’d like to have.”

They’ll be able to watch former Kentucky standouts Mike Edwards and Darian Kinnard in action for the Kansas City Chiefs, who will take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

Oh to be a kid again.
