A historic win streak has come to an end. The Transy women’s basketball team won 64 consecutive games, including a National Championship. One of the longest win streaks in the history of college basketball at any level ended in Thursday night’s Final Four game in Columbus.

In a battle of undefeated foes, New York University started hot and never relinquished the lead. Transy made it a one-possession game to end the first quarter, but from there it was all NYU. The Pioneers trailed 31-16 at the half and could not mount a comeback, falling 57-42.

“We were out of synch first half on offense and that created a pretty big hole that was hard to get out of,” Transylvania head coach Juli Fulks said after the loss. “Kudos to NYU, they did a good job on defense. We thought, if we held them in the low 50s, we were going to have a chance, and we just didn’t hit enough shots.”

The game was played at Capital University in Columbus, Fulks’ alma mater. Unfortunately, the Transy head coach did not get a victorious homecoming.

Dasia Thornton led Transy with 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, becoming just the second player in program history to tally 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. Caroline Peper was one of three players to score in double-figures for NYU, leading the Violets with 16 points. Morgan Morrison had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.

It was the first loss for the Transy women’s basketball program since March 12th, 2022, when they fell in the Elite Eight. Over the last three seasons, they are 89-2 with a pair of Final Fours and the 2023 National Championship.
