The Michigan Wolverines’ biggest step on the road to winning a national championship was its 27-20 overtime Rose Bowl victory against Alabama. It took a defensive stand near the goalline to seal the victory, but an errant snap from the Tide contributed to the result.

Seth McLaughlin, who transferred to Ohio State this offseason, had issues with snaps the entire game, and none of them were more consequential than the one on 4th and 4 to Jalen Milroe with the game on the line. Milroe fielded the low snap and turn the play into a quarterback draw, which was stuffed by the Wolverines’ defensive line.

What would have happened if the snap was not low? Would Milroe have thrown the ball and found a target somewhere?

“We’ll never know,” Milroe said on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. “I’ll be real like, that truly made me really love the coaching staff because you can see how much they believed in me. It is probably one of the most impactful plays of our whole season. And the ball is in my hands on the last play of the game. That speaks a lot about our coaches that believe in me. So I took it as a positive although we came out short.”

Host Taylor Lewan also give Milroe a hard time on if he thought Michigan cheated to win, given the sign-stealing allegations from the season.

“It don’t matter, they won,” Milroe said. “They won. It don’t matter, they won.”

Michigan would advance to the national title game the next week in Houston and take down Washington 34-13 to finish off its 15-0 season.

Michigan quote of the day

“I think the most important position, at least maybe in the NBA and potentially in college on defense is having, a really good center that can protect the rim because then you can do so much around that. And Vlad Goldin allows you to do that. You have Danny Wolf there, the Yale transfer, who’s also over seven feet as kind of a depth piece. And he’s a different type of player in that he’ll stretch the floor. Vlad Goldin, despite the videos released by his dog, probably isn’t going to be shooting many three-pointers for Michigan this year. But he is a big, big pickup. And maybe the centerpiece of this team from a personnel standpoint.”
