Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard is a fringe contender for the Heisman Trophy, according to DraftKings Sportsbook’s post-spring odds.

Leonard is tied for 10th at +3000, alongside four other quarterbacks: Kansas State’s Avery Johnson, Oklahoma’s Jackson Arnold, Florida State’s DJ Uiagalelei and Arizona’s Noah Fifita. Georgia QB Carson Beck and Texas QB Quinn Ewers are the early co-favorites at +900.

Incredibly, the top non-quarterback — Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter — is 25th in DraftKings’ odds at +6000. Multiple signal-callers who are not even projected to start for their own teams, like USC’s Jayden Maiava (+4000) and Ohio State’s Julian Sayin (+5000), have better Heisman odds than anyone who plays any other position.

Leonard has not officially been named Notre Dame’s starting quarterback, but he is widely expected to win the job after transferring from Duke.

The Irish have reportedly signed up for this.

It’s official!

What a moment for the Kavanaghs.

Quote of the day

“Someone, please save me. I have Notre Dame in the top five! Your first reaction may be Notre Dame is a little high. It was mine, too. For a recruiting nerd, it really was hard to put the Irish in the top five when Marcus Freeman hasn’t reached his potential in talent accumulation.

“But when you take a deeper look at the Fighting Irish, you see a team that has everything in place to break through in 2024. Notre Dame hired OC Mike Denbrock back from LSU and added quarterback Riley Leonard through the portal. It addressed its receiver issues with Kris Mitchell and Beaux Collins. It should have one of the best defenses in the country with a ton of returning production. And its schedule sets up to where 10-2 would be a disappointment.”
