COLUMBUS — Ohio State has been in the running for one of the country’s best prep running backs for nearly two years now. The race is getting closer to the finish line.

Four-star Santa Ana (Calif) Mater Dei running back Jordon Davison announced his final four schools and Ohio State made the cut. Michigan, USC and Oregon round out the mix for Davison. The 5-foot-11, 220-pound tailback is the No. 91 overall prospect and the No. 5 running back in the On3 Industry Rankings. On3 has Davison ranked as the No. 241 overall prospect and the No. 18 running back.

AlabamaMichiganOhio State and Oregon are my top schools,” Davison told On3. “Those schools made my list because of the development of players at my position, how the coaches coach running backs and where the programs are going right now.

“I am looking for the best opportunity. Relationships are essential, how running backs are used in the offense and where I have a chance to win will be things I look for in the future.”

Davison spoke about the Buckeyes with On3’s Chad Simmons and how they ended up in the final four.

“I have a great relationship with Coach Carlos Locklyn. It goes back to Oregon and when they started recruiting me. I think Coach Ryan Day prioritized choosing a coach who has a good relationship with me and that meant a lot. Coach Day has been very consistent with me and I like the direction the program is headed and how this recruiting class is going.”

Ohio State — even with its coaching change at running back — has always sat in a good position for the West Coast talent. Davison camped in Columbus last summer and has been on campus each spring since then. He is eyeing a summertime decision but won’t rush the process. Meaning, that if he’s unsure, he won’t commit until he is ready.

There are six predictions in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine on Ohio State to land Davison. Both myself and Alex Gleitman placed predictions at the beginning of April. USC writer Scott Schrader, Texas writer Justin Wells and Michigan writer EJ Holland all picked the Buckeyes too.
