Buckeyes name players of game from win over Wisconsin

Ohio State scored on the first possession. And the second. And the third, fourth and fifth. The rout was on early in the Buckeyes 52-21 win over Wisconsin.

And the program made sure to name players of the game from that win, one that put the Big Ten on notice early in the conference slate.

Ohio State tight end Cade Stover was named offensive player of the game for his four-catch, 51-yard, two-touchdown catch performance. The captain and playmaker is quickly becoming a real weapon in both the running game and Buckeyes passing game.

Safety Tanner McCalister, who had four tackles, a pass deflection and an interception, was named co-defensive player of the game along with linebacker Tommy Eichenberg, who had 14 total tackles, seven of them solo, and two tackles for loss.

Buckeyes stay put in latest polls

The Buckeyes defeated Wisconsin 52-21 in a prime-time setting as it showcased their ability to control the game through the ground and air. Defensively the Buckeyes were once again top-notch and only allowed 296 total yards from the Badgers.

Ohio State (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) remains No. 3 in the latest edition of the AP Top 25. The Buckeyes only trail Georgia and Alabama according to the voters, and they will face off against Big Ten East Division opponent Rutgers in its current ranking.

The Buckeyes received four first-place votes after their performance against Wisconsin on Saturday.

The AP Top 5 can be seen below.

  1. Georgia
  2. Alabama
  3. Ohio State
  4. Michigan
  5. Clemson

Buckeyes open as heavy home favorite for Rutgers matchup

The October portion of the Buckeyes schedule opens with what should be another ‘take care of business’ home game for Ryan Day’s program. The Buckeyes opened Sunday as a 39-point favorite over Rutgers in a game that will happen at 3:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network. The total has been set at 56.5 points.

Ohio State has never lost to Rutgers in eight meetings. None of the eight games have been within three scores. And these Buckeyes seem to be on a mission early in the Big Ten season. The oddsmakers in Las Vegas fully expect Ohio State to remain dominant in the ninth meeting between these two Big Ten programs.

With another dominant win over Wisconsin under their belts to open league play, the Buckeyes are playing with plenty of confidence as they head into the Homecoming game.
