How Colorado transfer Jaden Milliner-Jones fits into SMU defense

Kansas State Wildcats center Jerrell Colbert committed to SMU, he announced on Wednesday. Colbert becomes the sixth SMU transfer addition for Andy Enfield & Co., bringing with him two years of eligibility remaining.

In the 2022-23 season, Jerrell Colbert took a redshirt, not seeing any action. However, by the 2023-24 season, he became a key piece for the Wildcats, playing in 31 games and getting 13 starts. He averaged 2.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game.

After high school, Colbert initially chose to go to LSU where he played as a freshman in the 2021-22 season. That was the last season that Will Wade was the head coach at LSU and the next year, he chose to transfer to Kansas State. He finished that year averaging 0.5 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game.

Colbert played his high school basketball at Houston High School in Germantown, Tennessee. There, he played for 17-year NBA veteran Mike Miller. In 2020-21, he was named Memphis Commercial Appeal Second Team All-Metro.

This is Colbert’s second time in the Transfer Portal after leaving LSU to come to Kansas State.

With Colbert on board, SMU now has transfer commitments from six players. Oregon guard Kario Oquendo, Long Beach State guard AJ George and Wake Forest point guard Boopie Miller are committed to the Mustangs. UMass forward Matt Cross and UC Santa Barbara big man Yohan Traore round out the forward additions.
