South Carolina signee Joyce Edwards has been named to the USA Basketball U18 AmeriCup team. The team will compete in the FIBA U18 AmeriCup Tournament from June 17-23 in Bucaramanga, Colombia.

Maddy McDaniel, also a Gamecock signee, was among the 26 players invited to tryouts in Colorado Springs, but she did not make the final roster. McDaniel is recovering from an injury she suffered in her high school playoffs.

Edwards and the rest of the 12-player roster will return to Colorado Springs for AmeriCup training camp on June 8. The rest of the team includes Sienna Betts, Jasmine Davidson, Madison Francis, Kayleigh Heckel, ZaKiyah Johnson, Jordan Lee, Leah Macy, Alivia McGill, Arianna Roberson, Kennedy Smith, and Sarah Strong.

A two-time national player of the year, Edwards is no stranger to international competition. Last summer she was the leading scorer for the American U19 team that won the World Cup in Spain. She averaged 12.6 points and 6.3 rebounds and was named to the tournament All-Star Five.

A three-sport star at Camden Edwards is one of the most decorated high school players to ever sign with South Carolina. She was named all-state in soccer, SLAM named Edwards an All-American, and USA Today named her to the All-USA team (the Player of the Year will be announced in August). Edwards is the MaxPreps National Player of the Year and the Gatorade National Player of the Year.

The U18 coaching staff is led by Indiana’s Teri Moren with assistants Jose Fernandez (USF) and Niele Ivey (Notre Dame).
