How it Happened: Ole Miss outlasts Tennessee 8-5 in seesaw battle

Tennessee took a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth but Ole Miss stormed back to plate four in the ninth, holding on for the 8-5 win over the Volunteers Saturday night in game two of the series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The rubber match of the series will take place on Sunday at 1 pm eastern time with the series tied at one game apiece.

AJ Russell (0-1) is the losing pitcher in relief, tossing three innings out of the bullpen while allowing four runs off two hits. Mason Nichols (3-0) is the winner after tossing the final 1.2 innings of the ballgame, allowing no runs.

Of note, Tennessee pitching coach Frank Anderson was ejected form the ballgame in the sixth inning and will miss Sunday’s series-finale serving a one-game suspension.

Here’s how it all went down for the Vols in a crazy game two of the series against Ole Miss.  

Scoring Summary

Top 1st: Andrew Fischer sent a solo home run to right field. Rebels 1-0

Bot 2nd: Hunter Ensley registered a two-run home run to left field. Vols 2-1

Top 3rd: Brayden Randle tallied a solo home run to right field. Tied 2-2
Top 6th: Andrew Fisher homered to right field. Rebels 3-2
Top 6th: Ethan Lege stole third and scored on a throwing error from the catcher. Rebels 4-2
Bot 7th: Dalton Bargo reached on a fielder’s choice at first, advanced to second on a throwing error by the short stop. Two runs score. Tied 4-4

Bot 8th: Blake Burke singled to right field. Cal Stark scored from third base. Vols 5-4

Top 9th: Jackson Ross RBI double tied the ballgame. Tied 5-5
Top 9th: Ethan Groff singled in two on a base hit to left field. Rebels 7-5
Top 9th: Treyson Hughes RBI groundout (4-3) brought in a runner from third. Rebels 8-5
