ITYT: The big Spring NIL event and what to expect from the Texas secondary in 2024
In the latest Inside Texas Roundtable, Joe Cook, Ian Boyd, and Eric Nahlin discuss Texas’ ongoing NIL efforts as well as an article Ian wrote for the site recently regarding the defensive back pedigrees of Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski and passing game coordinator Terry Joseph.

The show starts with NIL and Cook mimicking Alex Trebek with a trivia question regarding previous concerts at DKR. There haven’t been many, but on Saturday (today), you can add Ryan Bingham and Brooks and Dunn to the short list. Of course the purpose of this event, as well as a golf tournament held on Friday, is to raise proceeds for NIL opportunities for student-athletes.
Nahlin offers some numbers on what you can expect the event to raise based on costs of sponsorships. Hint: It’s enough to make rival fans nervous.
The show then transitions to the defensive backfield where Boyd compares PK’s best group at Washington and Joseph’s best group at Notre Dame to the current crop of Texas defensive backs. Boyd notes Texas has improved the athletic profile of the room.
Nahlin adds, not only has the athletic profile improved but so too has the football IQ. One reason for optimism for improvement alone is the players who were most frequently taken advantage of in 2023 have departed.
Nahlin then discusses what he believes is the real question on defense for the 2024 season.
