The country’s No. 2 safety was in Athens, Georgia this weekend.

Shaker Heights (Ohio) five-star safety Trey McNutt visited Georgia on Saturday and told On3’s Steve Wiltfong that he’ll be back for another visit.

Georgia offered McNutt in the winter and the star defensive back from Northeast Ohio has kept the Bulldogs in mind since then.

“I like the team, they’re just a powerhouse,” McNutt said in February. “I like the coaching staff. The coach that moved from USC, Donte Williams, moved to Georgia. He was recruiting me there too. He’s just trying to bring me on. It’s all about taking the process in and building these relationships.”

He also touched on Georgia’s ability to develop athletes for the next level.

“I know the defensive backs get developed really well,” McNutt said. “You always see Georgia’s defensive backs in the draft and you always see them being developed really well. I believe he (Donte Williams) could develop me and Georgia in general is a great place to get developed as a defensive back.”

More on McNutt’s recruitment

McNutt is the nation’s No. 26 overall prospect, No. 2 safety and No. 2 recruit from Ohio in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Ohio State currently leads for McNutt in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) with a 78.6 percent chance of landing his commitment. Lettermen Row’s Alex Gleitman logged an expert prediction favoring the Buckeyes in early March.

McNutt, an Ohio State legacy, has said that growing up in Ohio is not necessarily a factor in his recruitment.

“Ohio State is a good state school, but I didn’t grow near Ohio State,” McNutt told DawgsHq. “It was my first time being there when I visited. Leaving Ohio isn’t a problem for me. I’ll leave Ohio if I want to. It’s not a family decision. It’s whatever is best for me.”
