UTEP transfer offensive lineman Steven Hubbard committed to the Vanderbilt Commodores on Friday evening. He announced the move via his X page, formerly known as Twitter.

The 6-foot-3, 314-pound lineman announced his offer from Vanderbilt before committing to them a few hours later.

The Commodores had a rough season this year, finishing with a 2-10 overall record under Clark Lea. It marked the second time in three years the team has finished 2-10. Vandy will hope that players like Hubbard can help turn their fortunes around. In two of the past three seasons, the ‘Dores have gone winless in the SEC, posting an 0-8 mark.

Vanderbilt kicks off their 2024 campaign with the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday, August 31st.

This season, UTEP finished with a 3-9 overall record, only averaging 19.9 points per game, ranking them 119th out of 133 qualifying teams. They finished with a 2-6 record in C-USA.

Hubbard appeared in five games this season for the Miners, his fourth season with the program. The 6-foot-3, 314-pounder made nine starts in 2022 was named All-Conference USA honorable mention. In his redshirt junior season, he helped pave the way for the Miners to gain over 500 yards of offense against Louisiana Tech (501 yards) and against Florida International (525 yards).

The UTEP offense racked up 335 yards on 61 carries (5.5 average), scoring three rushing touchdowns while allowing only one sack in a victory against Florida International.

In 2021 as a junior, he appeared in the first four games for the team as a backup offensive lineman. In 2020, he saw action in five games for the Miners. Hubbard helped clear the way for a UTEP rushing attack that scored 16 touchdowns and cleared over 1,000 yards on the season.

With Hubbard’s commitment, it now gives Vandy 12 transfer commitments in the 2024 cycle, giving the ‘Dores the 15th-ranked class in the SEC.

Before joining UTEP, Hubbard spent his time at Kilgore College from 2018-2020, where he was voted as the best offensive lineman in the Southwest Junior College Conference (SWJCC). He also earned first team All-American honors and first team All-Conference honors there. In 2019, Hubbard anchored an offensive line unit that helped the Rangers rack up 485.2 total yards, 232.9 rushing yards, and 35.1 points per game in 2019. He helped to guide Kilgore College to an 8-2 overall record and a SWJCC Football Championship.
