2026 Brandon McCoy, tracking as one of the top PGs in his class, updates his recruitment

Brandon McCoy is tracking as one of the top point guards in the 2026 class. The rising sophomore at Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco averaged 16.0 points playing up in age with the AZ Unity program on Nike’s EYBL 16u Circuit this summer.

“I’d say I’m an all-around player, but I do like to get in the paint and create,” McCoy told On3. “My ball handling has tightened, and I can see myself being a true floor general throughout the summer. I watch a lot of basketball, not really individual players. If I see something I like, I’m going to look at it and try to add it to my game.”

McCoy also participated in the FIBA Americas 16U Championships, making the USA Basketball team that won a gold medal in the event. As one of only four class of 2026 players on the roster, McCoy averaged 12.0 minutes, playing in all six games.  

“It was a great experience for me,” McCoy said. “I had great coaches and great teammates. I learned so much and go against some of the top players in the world that are my age. Playing with good players and taking information from different coaches grew me as a player, for sure.”

On3 caught up with Brandon McCoy recently to start talking about his recruitment.

It is still very early for McCoy and his recruitment. He says he has not taken any visits, and he still carries less than ten offers. 

“I’m getting a lot of offers already,” McCoy said. “Right now, I have around ten, Michigan, USC, Rutgers, Cal, Washington, UCLA, Louisville, Oregon, and Arizona State, are the ones who have offered.

“I have not taken any visits yet, been to any games or anything, yet,” McCoy said. “I don’t have anything scheduled at the moment. Right now, I’m really just trying to get better. I’m not focused on schools or recruiting yet, I know that will come if I keep improving.”

College coaches are not able to talk to a class of 2026 prospect directly until June 15, 2024, and the players in that class cannot start taking official visits until August 1, 2024. Even with that, Brandon McCoy has given some thought to what he will be looking for in the process.

“I’ll want to play for a coach that will take me and let me do what I can do and keep improving with that,” McCoy said. “I know I’m going to have to play in a system if I play for a great coach, but I want to have a little bit of freedom in that system. 

“I watched a lot of basketball and didn’t really grow up a fan of anyone in particular. When I choose a school, I want to play with some great teammates, and I want to play in a good atmosphere and an electric fan base.”
