Golf isn’t supposed to be a dangerous sport, but it was for one golfer during the first round of the PGA Championship on Thursday thanks to Bryson DeChambeau.

PGA Professional Kenny Pigman was getting set to tee off on the 18th hole when a shot by DeChambeau drilled Pigman in the back. Thankfully, Pigman was OK and was able to continue his round.

To DeChambeau’s credit, he walked over and checked on Pigman, who seemed to appreciate the gesture.

Pigman is the head professional at Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino, California. He shot an 81 during Thursday’s first round.

Bryson DeChambeau finished his round with the lead, despite the errant shot. The 29-year-old fired a 4-under par 66 in the opening round of the PGA Championship.

DeChambeau, who is currently on the LIV Tour, has eight wins on the PGA Tour. His biggest victory and lone major came at the 2020 US Open.

The California native is known for his distance off the tee, as well as his analytical approach to the sport.

The PGA Championship is being played this week at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. Justin Thomas is the defending champion at the event. Thomas fired a 2-over par 72 in the opening round of the event on Thursday.

Joel Dahmen hits PGA Championship fan with tee shot, buys him a day’s worth of beer

Kenny Pigman wasn’t the only person at Oak Hill to get hit by a tee shot on Thursday.

PGA Tour golfer Joel Dahmen hit a fan — Caleb McGuire — in the calf, according to McGuire’s Twitter account. When Dahmen reached McGuire, he asked how much a beer cost at the event. After McGuire responded with “$17,” Dahmen handed him a $100 bill.

Dahmen reportedly told McGuire, “I got your beers today.”

Dahmen went on to make a par on the opening hole. He shot a 4-over par 74 in the first round of the tournament.

Dahmen attended the University of Washington, before turning pro in 2010. He has three professional wins, including one on the PGA Tour. Dahmen’s best finish at the PGA Championship came in 2020 when he tied for 10th place.

This is the first time that the PGA Championship has been played at Oak Hill since 2013. Jason Dufner won the event that year.

The PGA Championship was also played at Oak Hill Country Club in 2003 and 1980.
