Buffalo Bills DT Ed Oliver brags about knocking Jets QB out of game
Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver found himself in the middle of controversy recently, when he bragged about knocking Jets quarterback Mike White out of a game recently. He made the comment after Bills fans were calling for Oliver to be replaced by Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
Williams is currently in the middle of ongoing contract negotiations with the Jets. In the comments section on Instagram, Bills fans mentioned their desire to move on from Oliver and they wanted to bring in Williams. They said, “If he hits the market, move on from Ed Oliver, get him in Buffalo.”
Check out the exchange below.
That’s when Oliver responded, “dang I put the jets qb out the game what more you want lol.” The hit that Oliver mentioned happened on December 11, 2022, between the Bills and Jets. Following the game, White was taken to the hospital with a rib injury. If you watch the replay, it’s not surprising at all that he got hurt. Oliver had a perfectly clean release from the line of scrimmage and absolutely leveled White.
Check out the hit below.
Let’s be perfectly clear on one thing. It was a perfectly good, clean hit. Oliver doesn’t need to make any sort of apology for the hit. That’s football. Although, it’s easy to see why one might think he’s in the middle of a “controversy”.

Violence will always be a major draw for the game
Bragging about knocking him out of the game publicly is probably not the wisest move on his part from a PR standpoint. Football is a violent game. That’s the reality of the sport. It’s also one of the biggest attractions for many viewers across the world. But bragging about knocking a player out of a game also doesn’t violate any sort of major rules or laws.
If it was a safe, easy game, it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun to watch. It’s hard enough for defenders to sack the quarterback in the current rules. A defender rushing the quarterback doesn’t simply doesn’t have time to figure out how to lay them down perfectly.
Ed Oliver simply hasn’t performed up to his lofty draft position
Oliver simply hasn’t played the way you’d expect a top 10 overall draft pick to play. He has 14.5 sacks in four years with the Bills. Those numbers are a bit underwhelming. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the franchise move on. But Oliver’s comments likely won’t make a difference in the matter, either way.
