Panthers make multiple Monday roster moves

The Carolina Panthers have made a few roster moves after their loss on Sunday to the New England Patriots. In the game, the Panthers lost two of their offensive linemen and have placed them on injured reserve.

Left tackle Cameron Erving and center Matt Paradis left Sunday’s game with leg injuries; Paradis suffered the worst of the two. Erving will miss the next three games, at least, with a calf injury. Unfortunately for Paradis, he is out for the season after tearing his ACL. With their starters out, the Panthers will turn to Dennis Daley to fill in at left tackle. And at center, it is between Sam Tecklenburg and original starting center Pat Elflein. But Elflein is currently out with a hamstring injury himself.

Outside of the offensive line woes, the Panthers are waiving running back Royce Freeman. With star running back Christian McCaffrey returning from injury this week, Carolina will have little use for him going forward. Along with Freeman, the Panthers are moving on from linebacker Clay Johnston.

The final move made by Carolina on Monday was the signing of punter Lachlan Edwards to the active roster. The Panthers we’re bouncing him back and forth from the practice squad the last two weeks. But with it going on the third week activating him, Carolina would have to decide on his roster status. And instead of waiting the full three weeks, they have elected to sign him now for the rest of the season.

Panthers defender calls out Patriots quarterback

Former Alabama and current New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was called out by Carolina Panthers linebacker Haason Reddick for a play Jones made in Sunday’s game. The Panthers’ defender certainly wasn’t happy with Jones, calling the play “completely dirty.”

As can be seen in a video of the play, Jones was sacked by Carolina defensive end Brian Burns in the first quarter of the game and lost the ball. While the Panthers were recovering the fumble, Jones grabbed and held onto Burns’ right ankle as he was trying to run downfield – and that play ended up sidelining Burns for part of the game.

“Definitely thought it was a dirty play,” Reddick said. “I actually saw and witnessed the play while it was happening. At first, it felt like he was trying trip or kick Burns. And the next thing you know I saw him tugging on Burns’ ankle. I thought it was completely dirty. Hopefully, it’s something the league addresses.”

Jones – who went 12-for-19 passing for 139 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the Patriots’ 24-6 win – wasn’t called for a penalty on the play, as referee Clete Blakeman said it was a “subjective call.” As for Burns, he returned to the game but was banged up again in the fourth quarter with an injury to the same ankle.
