Carolina Panthers waive three in latest set of roster moves
The Carolina Panthers announced Monday that the organization has made three roster moves in accordance with the NFL’s deadline Tuesday, waiving wide receiver Krishawn Hogan, guard Marquel Harrell and defensive tackle Walter Palmore.
Following the three most recent cuts, the Panthers have brought their roster from 85 down to 82. They must reach 80 by the NFL’s 4:00 p.m. deadline Tuesday, so the organization has two more cuts to make.
Hogan was first signed by the Panthers on July 28 following a successful tryout, but the 6-foot-3, 217-pound receiver was waived Monday. An NFL journeyman, Hogan has spent time with the Cardinals, Colts, Saints and Titans over the course of his four-year NFL career. He has appeared in 10 games in his NFL career and has logged one catch for four yards. Hogan played collegiate football at Marian University, where he was graduated as of the school’s most decorated football players. He had a school-record 263 receptions and a school-record 4,395 yards coupled with 67 all-purpose touchdowns, which ultimately made him the first Marian player to receive an NFL Combine invite, then the first to sign with an NFL team and finally, the first to appear in an NFL regular season game.
Carolina signed Harrell on Aug. 19 after releasing wideout Micah Simon to ensure the roster stays at 85 players. Harrell got his NFL start as an undrafted free agent with the Buffalo Bills and spent the last five games of the 2020 season on the Bills practice squad. He played collegiate football at Auburn, where he was a left guard and two-time member of the All-SEC third team. Harrell appeared in 43 games and made 31 starts while at Auburn.

Like Harrell, Palmore was signed by the Panthers last week on Aug. 18. He spent the 2020 season, his rookie campaign, as a camp signee with the Houston Texans but did not see any game action. He was signed to the Cowboys practice squad last year, and spent the beginning of the 2021 preseason with the Seattle Seahawks. Palmore also played with the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL, where he was a teammate of Panthers backup quarterback P.J. Walker. He played in the collegiate ranks for Missouri after logging a year at two community colleges; Palmore’s best season as a Tiger came in his senior year, when he started all 13 games and had 31 total tackles, ninth-most on the team.
The Panthers have played two preseason games so far, losing 21-18 to the Panthers and 20-3 to the Ravens. Their last game of the preseason is on Aug. 27, when they’ll face the Steelers.
