Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson has played a big role in his team’s success throughout the postseason. The rookie out of Florida, has made 12 field goals in the playoffs so far, including two consecutive game-winning kicks to knock off the AFC’s top two seeds.

McPherson discussed the moment leading up to his latest game-ending kick that punched the Bengals’ ticket for Super Bowl 56.

“Before I took my steps back, I was just like, ‘All right, man. Let’s just be legendary,'” McPherson said he told his holder Kevin Huber. “I said this is where legends are made.

“And so I was like, ‘Let’s just be legendary. Let’s put this ball through and let’s go to the Super Bowl.'”

Cincinnati drove down the field and got McPherson in great field position for a 31-yarder. He drove it through with ease to end the game in overtime.

Cincinnati kicker chasing post-season record

McPherson’s strong postseason has put him in some legendary territory. Former NFL kicker Adam Vinatieri currently holds the record for 14 field goals in a single postseason, meaning that McPherson is just two away from tying the record and three field goals away from breaking it.

As the Bengals begin preparations for Super Bowl 56, McPherson admitted that the record is something that he has his eyes on. But ultimately, he wants the Bengals to score as many points as possible, however, they come.

“We just need three more in the Super Bowl to break the record [and] two more to tie,” McPherson said, via Pro Football Talk. “That’s definitely something we’re going to shoot for. We’ll see how it goes, I’d like to score a lot of touchdowns in the Super Bowl. However we can get points in the Super Bowl, we’ll do it.”

As a rookie, he connected on 28 of his 33 field goal attempts in the regular season. He made 46 of his 48 extra-point attempts.

McPherson’s jersey sales soar

Former Florida star Evan McPherson has become a franchise icon after his clutch performances throughout the season and confidence before and after hitting multiple game-winners.

As his status as a hero grows, Evan McPherson’s jersey has become a hot commodity. According to Front Office Sports, the Cincinnati Bengals have sold out indefinitely of No. 2 jerseys at the official pro shop.

McPherson was the only kicker taken in the 2021 NFL Draft, a fact the Bengals are very proud of at this point. Cincinnati took him with pick No. 149 in the fifth round. Now his jersey sales have reached a status few kickers in NFL history ever have before.
