Colin Cowherd explains why the Titans wouldn't want Aaron Rodgers

A lot of the focus last offseason in the NFL revolved around Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. After the Packers fell short in this year’s playoffs, Rodgers’ future in Green Bay is again uncertain. According to Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd, one team that shouldn’t be considered a fit for Rodgers is the Tennessee Titans.

Why aren’t the Titans a solid fit for Rodgers? Cowherd simply doesn’t believe that Vrabel and Rodgers have personalities that would mesh well with one another.

“Just seeing a report that the Titans will not pursue Aaron Rodgers this offseason, and that’ll probably get some pushback because it seems like an upgrade over Ryan Tannehill,” Cowherd said. “But they’ve won a lot of games with Ryan Tannehill. Also, I don’t think that Aaron Rodgers and Mike Vrabel are necessarily a good personality fit.

“Mike Vrabel is no bulls***, no drama high maintenance, neediness, it’s just not who he is. It’s one of the reasons I love Vrabel. I mean we’ve got to be honest about Aaron, he comes with a lot. There’s a lot to unpack annually.”

Over the last week, it was reported that Rodgers is building a home in Franklin, Tennessee, which is a suburb of Nashville, where the Titans play. Rodgers is reportedly “open” to the Titans, although a marriage between the two seems unlikely to Cowherd.

Cowherd: Rodgers isn’t a ‘magic elixir for Super Bowls’

Rodgers undoubtedly is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and that has been true for many years. In his NFL career, he has led the Packers to a 139-66-1 regular season record. He has thrown for over 55,000 yards with 449 touchdowns. But in the playoffs, Rodgers hasn’t seen the same type of success on a consistent basis.

In 21 career playoff games, Rodgers has led the Packers to an 11-10 record. He has one Super Bowl, coming in 2010. But to Cowherd, Rodgers hasn’t shown enough when it comes to getting to Super Bowls to make the unnatural fit between Rodgers and Vrabel worth it for the Titans.

“The other thing is, Aaron Rodgers has played in what, 20 playoff games and he’s won 11? He’s not some magic elixir for Super Bowls,” added Cowherd. “He’s great, he’s a great player. He’d make a lot of teams better. But I think a lot of people will look at Aaron Rodgers if the Titans are not interested and shake their head. But (Sean) McVay and (Matthew) Stafford work together (with the Rams). I thought (Kyle) Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo work together. They’re sorta guy’s guys.

“Vrabel and Aaron Rodgers, to me, don’t. I think Tannehill’s gonna win a lot of games, they just won the division, I think there will be a better fit down the road.”

Tannehill has been with the Titans for three seasons, leading Tennessee to a 30-13 record. In those three years, he has thrown for over 10,000 yards with 76 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. Tannehill led the Titans to the AFC Championship in 2019, and Tennessee lost in the Wild Card round last season. This year, the Titans earned the AFC’s top seed, but lost to the eventual AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals in the Divisional Round.
