Cowboys make final roster moves ahead of Patriots matchup

The Dallas Cowboys have made a few adjustments to the roster heading into Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots. After barely losing to the defending NFL champs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas has been lights out, winning four straight games in that span. This week, they will face a hot and cold Patriots team who got their second win of the season against the Houston Texans.

Before they get to that game, they’ve made a few roster decisions. The Cowboys have waived offensive tackle Brandon Knight. Knight was an undrafted rookie free agent Dallas signed back in 2019. The former Indiana Hoosier played in 21 games and started 10 as a member of the Cowboys.

In correlating moves Dallas has signed both fullback Nick Ralston and tight end Jeremy Sprinkle to the active roster for this week’s game.

Ralston is a native of Dallas and played his college ball at the University of Louisiana. The six-foot 237-pound fullback did not play his 2020 year for the Ragin’ Cajuns due to the team counseling their season because of COVID-19. In the offseason, he signed with the Cowboys after not being selected in the 2021 draft and then, later signed with the Cowboys practice squad after being a part of the team’s 53-man roster trim.

Cowboys add more tight end help

Sprinkle was a pick-up by the Cowboys in the offseason. The six-foot-five tight end was drafted by the Washington Football Team in 2017 in the fifth round. He was selected with the 154th pick out of Arkansas. Sprinkle spent his first four years with the Football Team. In Washington, he played in 59 games and started 33 of them. he concluded his time there with 34 receptions for 301 yards and added three touchdowns.

With the Cowboys, he is primarily used on special teams. He’s played on nearly 50 percent of their special team’s snaps. However, on offense, he has seen a slight increase in his usage there. In the last two games, he has played on an average of 20% of the offensive snaps. That is a nice jump from the less than 5% he averaged in the Cowboys’ first two games.

The Cowboys are looking to make it five wins in a role this weekend and have a good chance of doing so behind the play of their offense. With another win this weekend the Dallas Cowboys can further prove their case as one of if not the best team in the NFL right now.
