Green Bay Packers provide injury update on key wide receiver

The Green Bay Packers received good news on the status of one of Aaron Rodgers’ most reliable targets heading into this weekend’s playoff game vs. the San Francisco 49ers.

“Roughly 7 weeks after he had surgery to repair a core muscle issue, #Packers WR Randall Cobb is expected to play this week, per coach Matt LaFleur. Another injury boost,” Ian Rappaport tweeted on Wednesday.

Before the injury, Cobb was finally carving out a role in the offense. In 11 games. he hauled in 28 receptions for 375 yards and five touchdowns.

After earning the No. 1 seed and earning a bye week in the playoffs, the Green Bay Packers are set to host the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional round. The winner will have the honor of playing in the NFC Championship for the chance to appear in the Super Bowl.

Despite some time off, there are still some injuries Green Bay is dealing with. They released their injury report on Tuesday, with a few key players not fully participating in practice and one not practicing at all.

Full participation: LB De’Vondre Campbell (elbow), RB Aaron Jones (knee), QB Aaron Rodgers (toe), T Billy Turner (knee)

Limited participation: CB Jaire Alexander (shoulder), WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (back)

Did not participate: T David Bakhtiari

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been dealing with a toe problem for a few weeks but has continued to play through the injury. He has continued to play at an MVP level and will be one of the key reasons the Packers go deep in the playoffs.

The two other big names are cornerback Jaire Alexander and starting left tackle David Bakhtiari.

Alexander has only played in four games this season and they came at the beginning of the year. If he is able to play against the 49ers, he will have the job of defending Deebo Samuel when he’s on the outside. An important piece could be coming back just in time for the Packers.

As for Bakhtiari, he made his season debut against the Detroit Lions in the season finale. With how good of a pass rush San Francisco has, protecting Rodgers will be key to moving onto the NFC championship.

The Green Bay Packers are primed for another run at the Lombardi Trophy, but first they have to get past the San Francisco 49ers this weekend.

NFL.com Analyst Bucky Brooks compiled a list of every “X-factor” for each team competing in the postseason. He identified a key defensive player for the Pack.

Here’s what Brooks had to say about linebacker De’Vondre Campbell.

“Green Bay’s leading tackler was one of the most egregious Pro Bowl snubs, but Packer backers certainly appreciate his skills as the silent assassin on a defense with dominant potential. Campbell has excelled as a sideline-to-sideline defender in every aspect; the former Falcons fourth-rounder not only gobbles up ball carriers (146 total tackles), but he is a sneaky quarterback hunter (two sacks and six QB hits) and ballhawk (two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery). If the Packers’ defense dominates throughout the tournament, No. 59 will be in the middle of the action as the primary playmaker.”
