For the second year in a row, the Jacksonville Jaguars are placing a franchise tag on top offensive lineman Cam Robinson. Likely to pick up another high-round offensive lineman in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Jags are keeping Robinson for at least another year. He would have been an unrestricted free agent on March 16, the start of the new year league, without the tag or a long-term deal. Now that he has a franchise tag, the Jags can continue to negotiate for a larger deal until this summer.

Robinson, who earned $13.75 million in 2021, is due $16.66 million with the tag in 2022. He was the Jags’ second-round pick at No. 34 overall in 2017 following a stellar career at Alabama. He’s made 61 starts in 61 games played so far in his career.

Despite notching a 67.4 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2021, it was the best season in Robinson’s career thus far. The Jaguars have the first pick in the 2022 draft and many predict that the team will take another Alabama offensive lineman – Evan Neal.

Cam Robinson will play for his third head coach in Jacksonville this season. After an abysmal year, the Jags parted ways with Urban Meyer and hired Doug Pederson this offseason. He’s tasked once again with protecting former No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence took a middling 32 sacks in his first season down in Florida.

Robinson one of several tagged Tuesday

The Jacksonville star is one of several of the league’s top pending free agents to pick up a franchise tag on Tuesday. The Packers plan to tag Davante Adams after signing Aaron Rodgers to a blockbuster deal. The Cowboys put a franchise tag on tight end Dalton Schultz. In Miami, the Dolphins tagged tight end Mike Gesicki. Also, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers put a tag on wideout Chris Godwin.
