Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay was arrested for misdemeanor criminal damage late Wednesday night. According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office via KCTV, Gay was arrested at around 10:30 p.m. in Overland Park, Kansas.

Still, there’s been no other information released regarding the Chiefs linebacker. The latest update was the 23-year old was booked into the Johnson County Detention Center, where he remains awaiting bond.

Moreover, Gay was a second-round draft pick in 2020 out of Mississippi State. Since, he’s become a starter for the Chiefs. However, he was used sparingly last Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With questions regarding his situation, it remains to be seen what the Chiefs do with their linebacker for this weekend’s showdown with the Buffalo Bills. If Willie Gay is unable to suit up, the Chiefs will have an even more difficult time stopping quarterback Josh Allen.

Update: Kansas City Chiefs beat reporter for The Kansas City Star Sam McDowell provided an update into the situation Thursday morning.

More on Willie Gay, Kansas City Chiefs

Thus far, Willie Gay has accumulated 48 tackles and .5 sacks for the Kansas City Chiefs on the season. Additionally, the former Mississippi State star adds two interceptions to his statistics.

A former second round selection, Gay has become a vital piece of the Chiefs defense. As you could see, that made his bizarre usage in the AFC Wild Card showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers so puzzling. Still, it was believed Gay would’ve seen an uptick in snaps against a star quarterback like Josh Allen this weekend.

Now, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo may have to enter the game without a key piece of his unit. While there’s been no decision made yet regarding Gay’s status, more details are bound to emerge over the next couple days. It remains to be seen what the Chiefs decide to do regarding the linebacker.
