Multiple NFL receivers troll Eli Apple after Super Bowl loss

After giving up the game-winning touchdown in the Super Bowl, Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Eli Apple’s bad night was just getting started. Multiple NFL wide receivers took their shot at the veteran defender on social media, quite literally adding insult to injury.

After a failed quarterback sneak into the endzone, Rams head coach Sean McVay drew up a pass play on the goal line. Quarterback Matthew Stafford took the snap under center and looked toward the sideline, where Cooper Kupp ran a fade route into the endzone for a touchdown on Apple.

The most direct insult came from Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who also felt the need to tag Eli Apple in the tweet.

“Wish you was a better corner bro then the game winning touchdown wouldn’t been scored on you,” said Hardman. He also tagged Apple in the post and added a shrugging emoji.

Fellow Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill got in on the action, keeping it much simpler with three laughing emojis after the Rams touchdown.

Perhaps the insult that will hurt Eli Apple the most came from former Ohio State and New Orleans Saints teammate Michael Thomas. Despite spending their college careers together and a second stint in the pros, he went after the defender’s reputation.

“Eli going to Eli,” posted Thomas.

As the insults continued to fly at Eli Apple, more NFL players decided to chime in. Among those to step in with their take on the controversial cornerback, a pair of Baltimore Ravens wide receivers each joined.

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown tweeted, “Apple pack gone hit hard in LA,” and got a response from quarterback Lamar Jackson. Both were responding to rookie Rashod Bateman, who simply posted an apple emoji with a period behind it.

Despite his negative reputation, Apple did play a role in helping the Cincinnati Bengals reach the Super Bowl. He has continued to demonstrate confidence, but the Rams and Twitter got the best of him on Sunday.
