Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars are off to a less than stellar start in 2021. After many expected Lawrence to go into Houston and win his first professional football game, the former Clemson star fell victim to the Texans.

Moreover, the 37-21 loss broke an astounding streak for him. Shockingly, Lawrence’s loss to the Texans was his first regular season loss — ever.

The insane statistic included Lawrence’s time in high school, college and the NFL. After going undefeated in the regular season at Cartersville High School (Cartersville, GA) and Clemson, the streak was bound to be broken with the Jaguars.

Still, it was widely believed the Texans were punting on the 2021 season, with fellow Clemson star Deshaun Watson riding the bench. However, they quieted the doubters with a wire-to-wire victory over Jacksonville.

While Lawrence did some good, he also showcased his status as a rookie. The quarterback made some boneheaded throws, leading to three interceptions.

Still, the number one selections in the 2021 NFL Draft flashed why many believed him to be one of the best quarterback prospects ever. In his debut, Lawrence completed 28 of 52 passes, accumulating 332 yards passing and three touchdowns.

It’s obvious the streak had to end sometime. Now, Trevor Lawrence will look to get his first regular season win in the NFL next week against the Denver Broncos.

“It obviously sucks.”

The hype in Jacksonville was real prior to the season, but yesterday’s loss put a damper on things. Afterwards, Lawrence explained his feelings following his first professional loss.

“It obviously sucks,” Lawrence said via ESPN. “Losing’s always hard, especially when you feel like you’re prepared and had a great week and really think we were ready. Just obviously didn’t play well. It starts with me. I played really bad tonight. Disappointing for sure.”

However, the former Clemson star isn’t letting one bad game detour his belief.

“I still believe in this team,” said Lawrence.” I still know what we’re capable of. We did some good things. We started off with some penalties, three-and-out; but then after that, we had a couple good drives, we’re hitting some big plays. There’s a lot of good things there, and we’ve got to keep doing those and learn from the bad. We’ve got to watch it and learn from it, for sure, but then flip the page.

“It’s a long season. We can’t let this snowball. We’ve got to move on and go win next week.”

It’s tough to label a game ‘must-win’ in just the second week of the season, but a victory would quiet a lot of critics. For Trevor Lawrence and head coach Urban Meyer, that would be the best possible scenario this early into their partnership.
