See the link below. From the article:

”The NFL Players Association's new executive director has called for the league to change all of its field surfaces to natural grass in the wake of Aaron Rodgers' season-ending injury.

Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles tendon on the fourth play of the Jets' season Monday night, spoiling the superstar quarterback's New York debut and reigniting the leaguewide debate over playing surfaces at NFL stadiums.

MetLife Stadium, the home of the Jets and Giants, installed a new surface this year called FieldTurf, which is softer and has a more forgiving feel than the stadium's previous synthetic turf.

But Rodgers' injury sparked a widespread outcry for grass surfaces, and NFLPA executive director Lloyd Howell echoed those sentiments in a statement released Wednesday morning.”

Natural grass does tend to get chewed up a lot by football in the center of the field - worse with the NFL with the smaller hash marks - and would be more of an issue in a shared stadium like this that hosts more games. I wouldn't image that a worn down grass field is better than turf. I'd be curious if there are studies that show that turf field contribute to injuries more than grass in the NFL.

Grass, man!
As though it's now only necessary because Aaron was injured. Where were they before?

I understand it's somewhat covered in the article but switching to grass in a stadium is a huge and expensive undertaking. Turf fields are built on concrete with special drainage to keep from puddling. You can't just jackhammer out the concrete and use the same sub base and drainage then lay turf on top.

It was attempted at PNC Field, the home of the AAA Yankees franchise, back in 2007, and it forced the team to play home games on the road for a significant part of the season.

The concrete needs to be jackhammer out, the sub base and drainage needs to be removed, and the correct media and drainage need to be reinstalled if possible. There's a possibility that drainage for grass won't be possible with some stadiums.

Also, can they grow grass in the domes that don't have retractable roofs or retractable fields?
