See the link below. From the article:

”Retired NFL star Michael Oher, whose supposed adoption out of grinding poverty by a wealthy, white family was immortalized in the 2009 movie "The Blind Side," petitioned a Tennessee court Monday with allegations that a central element of the story was a lie concocted by the family to enrich itself at his expense.

The 14-page petition, filed in Shelby County, Tennessee, probate court, alleges that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, who took Oher into their home as a high school student, never adopted him. Instead, less than three months after Oher turned 18 in 2004, the petition says, the couple tricked him into signing a document making them his conservators, which gave them legal authority to make business deals in his name.

The petition further alleges that the Tuohys used their power as conservators to strike a deal that paid them and their two birth children millions of dollars in royalties from an Oscar-winning film that earned more than $300 million, while Oher got nothing for a story "that would not have existed without him." In the years since, the Tuohys have continued calling the 37-year-old Oher their adopted son and have used that assertion to promote their foundation as well as Leigh Anne Tuohy's work as an author and motivational speaker.

"The lie of Michael's adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher," the legal filing says. "Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys."”

I smell a misunderstanding.

So they took him in and now they are bad people. Got it. Didn’t like the movie anyway. I want my money back. 20 dollars for movie and 20 for popcorn and sodas and candy. Can we start a group civil action? Bob can you be the leader.

Don’t know if this is the same difference but Loretta Lynn made $0 from the movie Coal Miner’s Daughter.

Had not heard that, but upon further reflection, it doesn’t surprise me as they didn’t even use Loretta’s vocals on the soundtrack.

IF true and they told him they couldn't adopt him and got power of attorney as conservators to get control of the money while giving their biological children millions there is a special place waiting for these people. I am trying to withhold judgement until I hear their side of the story but if even half of this is true someone should be going to jail.

The guy who wrote the book certainly got paid. And so did Bullock - she took a pay cut in exchange for a piece of the profits. Smart move. But, really sh*tty for this kid.

This looks like one of those “for profit deals” and some made a larger profit than others. Always causes problems.

The Tuohys: "We brought Michael Oher into our lives and home because we are compassionate people who wanted to help out a disadvantaged soul. It had nothing to do with his being a football star and getting him to go to our alma mater Ole Miss."

Also the Tuohys: "Oh we had to do a conservatorship because otherwise he couldn't go to Ole Miss."

Yeah, and if Oher went on to have a decade long NFL career and make millions this lawsuit never happens. He probably has some claim though - word is the Tuohys received $225,000.00 and 2.5% of the 'net proceeds' from the film, which is definitely less than they got for selling their fast food franchise.

Say it isn’t so Sandra Bullock.

To Bullock's credit she turned the role down three times after saying she had issues portraying someone as 'devout Christian' as Leigh Anne Tuohy (later resolved once they met in person). I guess Julia Roberts was the original choice for the part but she turned it down. This isn't Bullock's fault though and she shouldn't get any hate for taking a job (but is anyway).

As a Panthers fan, Oher was a very odd character during his time in Charlotte. At least from the outside, it appeared he suffered from mental illness or concussion syndrome. I remember many fans at the time discussing his health and whether he should even play and he was out of action for long stretches.

This story appears to be all over the place. They clearly helped him grow up but their motivations are now in doubt. Not sure what to think to be honest.

According to spotrac.com, his agent was Jimmy Sexton (CAA Sports).

Good find. So are we to believe an agent as good as Jimmy Sexton did not notice or care about the existence of a conservatorship with regard to his client? It's hard to imagine that in a multi-year relationship with a sports agent the topic or discovery never came up.

On the other hand, who (other than Rudy Guliani) is going to file a suit over something that doesn't exist?

he also made 10 million? Of the movie?
so sounds like publicity to buy his book.

Was talking with a friend that bought and read Oher's autobiography that was published in 2011. They dug it out, and the book clearly states that the legal arrangement between him and the Tuohy's was a conservatorship, not an adoption. So he had to have known when he wrote the book. This seems like it is going to get very ugly.
