While it is true the NFL is all about the money, the guy is a dumbass. Sounds like he was running his mouth to impress his "date". OTOH, I've never heard of O'Keefe Media. It must be their thing to have female reporters troll dating apps to see if they can hook a low level NFL staffer. Real kickass journalism. Everyone sucks here.

It's an off-shoot of a gotcha political operation. Nothing more needs to be said here but it's the same MO. Exactly what you surmise. They've gone mercenary.

Yes, check out Project Veritas.
I have seen some of their stuff - funny what people say when they aren’t censoring themselves - wonder what politicians say when in private - I bet you would be shocked.

Having been around politicians (up to state level) behind closed doors- you may be surprised to not be able to tell them apart when they don't have lights, cameras or the press in front of them. Politics is defintiely Kabuki Theater.

There was a pretty notorious instance of this happening to a supreme court justice this past summer; shocking but not shocking.

"The District of Columbia is a one-party consent district. Therefore, you don't need the permission of anyone else to record conversations that you are a part of. If you want to record someone else's conversation, you will need consent from at least one party."

They suspended him but, they did not say it was untrue.
This isn't journalism, it isn't even news. Enteen wasn't a public figure until this "story" made him one.

So what happened? He met someone on a dating app, they got together, and he decided to do his best imitation of Mr. Big Stuff. Nothing he disclosed was factual, all opinion, his opinion, not that of the Commanders. He lost his job, justifiably so, because he embarrassed his organization. Gossip-mongering at its worst.

He holds, and expressed, some vile opinions. Good riddance!

People can think whatever they want, but when they say it or write it, they make themselves a potential target

If everyone were held to the same standard the US GDP wouldn't be much higher than that of Afghanistan.

So, if I'm on a date and say something disparaging about someone, I can get fired for it if my employer finds out and doesn't like it? Probably won't matter because my wife will kill me for going on a date.
If you're an at-will employee, yes you can get fired. But then you can get fired for your choice of neckties.

Let's take a more practical, enlightened view. You're a valued employee. You say something negative that gets back to your employer, but never makes it into the public domain. You're called on the carpet, get chewed out big time, but, sufficiently chastened, keep you job.

However, if your comments are such that they make the front page of the WSJ, you're toast.

Seems like hyperbole. When was the last time you made vile statements to a stranger? I doubt you ever have, nor have I.
Depends on your definition of stranger. I don't recall, but I probably have on occasion, though not to the lengths that it would take to derive the report.

While I'm not defending Enteen, he was clearly entrapped.

No debate there. Given what he said, it's hard to muster up a lot of sympathy.
Since the comments were made public, it's moot.

I feel pretty safe in assuming that the intended target was the Commanders, maybe even the NFL, not Enteen.

Probably prompted too; would love to see transcripts of these enlightening 'dinner' conversations....

Foolish, narcissistic guy ruins his career to impress his date. Some of this is likely true but I don't place much value in it due to the obvious honey trap. This probably happens a few times a year with NFL executives that we never hear about for different reasons.

By vile you mean extremely unpleasant.
I can remember few situations with unpleasantries cited to another poster by a guy named 'Art' on the old McAndrew board. 🤭

"Few?" You must have lost count. Guess you must have forgotten about the Manheim Magpies and michnittlion.

Keep in mind there is a difference between calling Wally a pencil-necked geek to his face and intimating to Bob that Wally is a pencil-necked geek. Nolo contendere on the first and why bother with the second if you're doing the first.
