The entire QB market is so out of whack that all of those mid/bottom tier QBs are getting so overpaid. Teams are afraid to miss out on the QB merry-go-round, so they end up overpaying for someone like Jones (or paying too much for Dak, overpaying for Cousins, overpaying for Watson, etc). The side-effect to it is all of these QBs being drafted in the top 5/10 even though they shouldn't have a top 5/10 grade on them.

I think most agree that paying Jones was a mistake. The problem with benching him is that you don't have a potential replacement on the roster.
They aren't going to move forward with DeVito or Lock. They are probably better off letting him play and maybe getting somebody interested.

Interested in what? There is no one that would be interested in his current contract. And, the only way they need to pay him next season is if he gets hurt. Benching him is the obvious move if you're ready to move on from him.

SIAP but this just hit me....

Daniel Jones and Tommy DeVito. Flip their first names.

Tommy Jones and Daniel DeVito. So I looked around........

Tommy Lee Jones and Danny DeVito (uncredited) were both in "Men in Black".

"Men in Black" was released in 1997.

In 1997, the Giants' starting QB was Dave Brown. He was injured in Game #6. Danny Kanell was the starter for the remainder of the season.

In 1998, Kanell sucked azz and was benched after the Giants started 3-7.

After the 1998 season, the Giants cut Kanell to create salary cap room for the signing of Penn Stater Kerry Collins.

Truthfully, I have no idea what any of this means other than the GIANTS SUCK!!

It’s next yrs injury guarantee they are worried about. If he gets hurt this yr next yr is fully guaranteed. If he is healthy they can release him

How the Giants GM and HC have jobs still is beyond me. I would think both are gone at season's end. Thinking that signing Jones to a big contract over Barkley and letting Barkley walk was nuts. I am ok with letting Barkley walk if they had a good QB to spend the money on. Jones has been erratic at best. Just poor talent evaluation and contract management. Both should be gone at season's end.

They did Saquon a favor. He never had a chance with those piss poor offensive lines.

Watching Hard Knocks is pretty revealing when you see how some of these coaches and front office think. It is quite amazing.

IF the GM is making all personnel decisions and Daboll is told to coach and win with the players the GM provides then I can see Daboll should get some slack. If they are both making the decisions together then both should be gone. The Giants Oline has been a disaster for years.

Saw an article today that suggested Fields to the Giants and Jones to the Steelers in the off season.
I'd really expect the Giants to draft a QB early. Fields might make sense on a one-year "prove it" type deal, but I assume he'll be looking somewhere with a chance to be the longer term QB (and would find a longer term deal elsewhere).

Dave Brown also played at Duke. And before everyone jumps on the Duke QBs suck in the NFL bandwagon, allow me to point out what Saquon has done on a team that’s not the Giants.

I think this points to a Giants housecleaning after the season. Schoen and Daboll are gone. You can’t bring a coach back next year based on their track record.

Jones is obviously gone too. They’re in tank mode and hoping to find their future QB next draft.

What a huge FU to Drew Lock. Seems to be a clear indication that NY doesn't want to pay him any incentives and is in full tank mode for a draft pick (can't really blame them for the latter).

I don't think that any PSU/Big Ten fans will shed any tears at FOX getting stuck with this Giants/Cowboys debacle in that key Thanksgiving Day slot. Tommy DeVito-Cooper Rush (with Drew Lock and Trey Lance both waiting in the wings). Wow.

Maybe but the Giants needed to do this for Jones. Right thing to do.

Yes, thank you. It was my father’s birthday, November 28, Thanksgiving. I’m sure I’ve mentioned that Dad was a rabid Redskins fan. We ate late and my father had to carve the turkey after the loss and he massacred the turkey, everyone watching in painful silence. After that fateful day there was a new rule for Thanksgiving: eat before the game. Dad loved his Redskins and that game was a body blow. Hard. Life gave him a hard time but he did his best and the Redskins winning three Lombardi Trophies definitely helped smooth the rough patches.

Dude, not at all. Don’t take it that way. I’m just thinking of my dad today and you happened to mention it. It’s a good story, resonates with all of us. It’s all good, all love.
You should laugh at this: why was I thinking of my father in the first place? It was because I was thinking of Clint Longley in the context of Jones getting cut. No lie.
