“Lo”- this is the guy you want to build a staff around?

It’s not a pitching coach. It’s talent.

We fell in love with him because he throws with both hands.

If we are planning on ”building”around him next season we are in T-R-O-U-B-L-E
Dude is marginal at best. No reason to build a program around him. But damn do we suck.

He's a gimmick player. We need some fireballers.
That’s a pretty gimmicky skill he has, but he’s got good velocity that you can’t teach. You can, however, teach him to hit the broad side of a barn once every 10 pitches.

He’s not even worth a sec scholarship from the left side.

Anyhow, he needs to start as a pen guy next season or mid week starter and earn more. We need to get 3-4 guys to campus that can put him in the role he belongs in

I don’t think anyone has ever said that they wanted to “build a staff” around him. He is unusual in that he can throw left or right, but that’s about it. I think he has a role but not as a starter. Also should probably consider the fact that he is a freshman who was thrown into the fire as a starter in the SEC in his first year. It’s possible that he could benefit from another year working under a competent pitching coach-which he damn sure didn’t benefit from this past year.

He’s got pretty good stuff. But has no idea how to pitch. And he’s not going to learn in a year.

He’s a true freshman. He never should have be required to pitch to a single SEC hitter. I’ll tell you in two more years whether he’s an SEC pitcher or not.
Lots of freshman making impact all over the SEC. Lots of freshman way more productive than he was and has been IN or OUT of conference.

Yet lots of excuses made, his age, foxhall, etc.

He’s a pen arm. We need to recruit or bring in 4-5 arms to put him in the role he belongs. IF we are penciling him into a weekend starter role next year—- next year Will look a lot like this year

So, we recruit players, put them on scholarship (+ NIL money) for 3 years for just 1 year of production? True freshman or not, an 11.31 conference ERA is nowhere near acceptable. You're right about one thing though. He should never have been put into an SEC game (or any other game for that matter).

You either have it or you don’t. To me he is a positional player that you may could turn into a one inning closer.

How come other teams in this league recruit freshman that step in and play… and our freshman ”aren’t ready”
because we haven't recruited (gotten to campus) the quality arms that other teams seem to get to campus. and the ones that we DID get to campus, we didn't develop whatsoever. it's as simple as that

Agree with this.

Goes back to what I’ve said. We don’t have the talent on campus. It’s not that it isn’t ready or wasnt coached. It’s these guys aren’t as talented as others in the league.

Which now begs the question...is Starkville really a place the top flight talent wants to be? We've got the hardware, we have the facilities and the fan support...are we being outclassed by other programs or is Lemonis just lazy? I can't believe NIL is this much of a factor at this point..ie, the difference between the last two teams in the SEC and the first five.

Because we have a staff (outside of Gotro maybe) who has no concept of evaluation and development. We don't sign a lot of good pitchers. We sign guys with certain metrics instead. Too many bad Juco guys too. We don't have many SEC pitchers on this roster.
Now, name all the FR aces in this league this year. Lo should've been a midweek starter and a middle reliever this year. He can pitch here. He's not ready to be an ace. Same for Loftin who is also a guy that can pitch here. Siary is a midweek guy and short reliever. That's three FR who can contribute in various ways.

It’s an evaluation & recruiting issue. We’ve never had any problem getting talented players to Starkville & we never will.

In fairness to the "freshman" pitching convo and whether ours are/were ready...Out of all the SEC series this past weekend, there were a total of 5 freshman starters + Lo. Thats not much.

The Kumar Rockers of the world are few and far between.

So close to half the league had a FR weekend starter. It’s not unusual at all. How many of those had double digit ERAs?

That would suggest our coaches are either lazy or incompetent. We need to do a better job of evaluating coaching hires.
the coaches did recruit lazy, letting PG do all of the evaluating for them. That's letting a company that lets players pay for a higher rating do your evaluating. just stupid and lazy. couple that with the little league errors that have crept into our program, and the decision really shouldn't be difficult. but we will MSU it, and give him another year. and be right back here next year talking about the same issues. we'll set ourselves back a decade from where we should be expecting to be year in and year out.

This is the problem when you recruit rating stars with limited scholarships like in baseball. It works in football because Bama can recruit a bunch of them. You see how many 4- and 5-star guys in college football that don't pan out. In baseball you better evaluate with the limited scholarships no room for mistakes. In other words I agree with you. They have signed some good guys who can field and hit but it took them too long to get them into the right spots. Forsythe should have been replaced way earlier than he was. Look how good that Freshman is they put in his place. WTH!
