presumably the legal structure would shield the member schools from liability like an LLC would in a small company. The owners are shielded from many liabilities of the LLC. during the sanctions against us, there were some people on this forum who explained our inability to bring a lawsuit against the NCAA and how the schools are part of the story. I don't recall how the NCAA was structure with the schools.

It does appear on all fronts the lawsuits today are challenging the ability for the schools to group to together and create agreements that govern the schools and student-athletes. The basis for every lawsuit has been anti-trust, so whoever is going to govern college sports is going to either need to get anti-trust immunity from congress or just create a sub-group (i.e. BIG+SEC) so there would be competition from other organizations and the anti-trust argument would be much harder to stick.

It won't be a problem. Monies will be paid out over ten years. Schools will receive reduced distributions from the NCAA, (if they are not eliminated entirely which amount to a drop in the bucket to begin with.

they should have not settled and just declared bankruptcy. nobody gets anything and let the sport implode on itself. the solution has always been for the US Congress to grant the NCAA anti-trust immunity. whoever is going to govern cannot be sued using anti-trust logic. now if SEC and BIG went off on their own and created their own championship they would fall below AT % and could avoid these suits.

Now that schools are on the hook for an (up to) additional amount of $22m a year, would a school be willing to pay the buyout for an underperforming coach? Look at Napier at Florida - two not good seasons already and has the toughest schedule in the country. Will Florida pay his $25mm buyout? And then cough up another $80-$100mm for someone like Kiffen? And how long do schools keep paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to assistant coaches?
