Well that’s the kid’s side of the story. The college said some of the things he asked for were illegal. Serious question, unless he is the second coming of Tom Brady, who would want this kid now?

I'd add the kid's 'agent' should be working to get him NIL deals - that's what he's for. It's not and never was just 'give me money' - WTF has he done for any of it? You can't be paid to just play. Livvy Dunne doesn't just get paid to be a gymnast; did he make any effort to promote a product or do anything worthy of a payment? No - just wants money.

What was illegal? There are no rules anymore!

It is illegal (or against NCAA rules) to pay players just to play football. There has to be *some* NIL component (promoting products on social media, in-person appearances, etc.) to get the money. I think that is changing with the new ruling, but that's where we are now IIRC.

that is correct and the agent would also assure that they have an enforceable contract with legal entity or entities that are paying for the NIL services. That is where the contract resides. UNLV is not the contracting entity with the player. If there is a valid contract that can be enforced it would attach the consideration - whatever his NIL services were going to be and the associated payments for said services. at most UNLV would be a 3rd party beneficiary, and the player is not committing to attend UNLV as consideration in the agreement with these entities.

UNLV has stated that they are not involved in pay for play as that is a violation of NCAA rules.

BTW now it looks like the USC player has a large tax liability with the IRS. That is bigger issue than any ncaa issue.

This is what's wrong with paying players... without contracts and governance.
NCAA and the college presidents are to blame. After O'Bannon they had the opportunity to settle for something far less draconian and, failing that, to prepare a structure to deal with this.

Yeah, I was already a big fan of UNLV this season. Rooting hard for them to represent the G5 in the playoff.
Sluka probably won't learn anything since some other school will probably pay him something, and he'll be rewarded for this nonsense in the end.

I hope not. I heard that one of their star WRs tweeted something to the effect of "about time" when they announced Williams as the new QB. Maybe teammate shaming will dissuade this stuff. A lot of chatter that this was a close QB competition in practice and Williams is not much of a drop off (if at all). Dude killed it at Campbell.
