I was wearing a PSU jacket in the food store today. A guy walked by and said, “Tell ‘em to put the statue back up.” I said, “That’s right!”
How refreshing.

Get in line, some of us have been waiting the Penn State to return the donated ‘Homage to Capa’ statue by Igael Tumarkin to campus for twenty years. It was taken down for repairs and hasn’t been seen since.
The proper response was “F-ing-aright they should!”I was wearing a PSU jacket in the food store today. A guy walked by and said, “Tell ‘em to put the statue back up.” I said, “That’s right!”

Perhaps it should be put up somewhere else on campus though, given that its original location (the Hub lawn, or within view of it over by Atherton) was the scene of a fatal sniper shooting.View attachment 194557

Thought it was removed because IIRC, it was on the HUB lawn and has a person holding a rifle and that was where the shooter was in the 90s. So…they yanked it.
Yep. Not only is the person holding a rifle, but the original photo it was based on literally depicts the moment the holder of the rifle was shot in the head.Thought it was removed because IIRC, it was on the HUB lawn and has a person holding a rifle and that was where the shooter was in the 90s. Melt it down, mint Joepa coins, sell 'em with the money going to the Paterno library.Back to the Joe statue though, I’d like it to be put back up indoors (like at the sports museum at the stadium) to help curb any vandalism concerns.
Or melt it down and make a new statue that’s a better likeness

He looked like Morty Seinfeld with those gigantic glasses.Back to the Joe statue though, I’d like it to be put back up indoors (like at the sports museum at the stadium) to help curb any vandalism concerns.

Why do you hate yourself over putting the statue back up? The wimps who ordered its removal should hate themselves. The statue never should have been taken down. NEVER!!I was wearing a PSU jacket in the food store today. A guy walked by and said, “Tell ‘em to put the statue back up.” I said, “That’s right!”

I think Joe and family would be in favor of this!Melt it down, mint Joepa coins, sell 'em with the money going to the Paterno library.

IMO that was even worse than the statue. What was wrong with a plaza honoring former players/teams. IMO taking those down was like accusing them of being guilty by association. And the plaques!!!
Forget the statue for now. Here are my thoughts fwiw
- New president actually reviews Freeh’s report
- clarifies Penn State’s actual position on Freeh conclusions, including Paterno role
- makes amends with formerly “valuing football over human decency“ alums
- initiates new fundraising initiative for stadium improvements
I like it, but unless there is a very pro Joe President, the first 3 I don't see happening. I don't see the board allowing a very pro Joe president either. They all want that entire situation including any new findings to stay buried. They want to move on and not revisit something that could make many people on the board cast in a very bad light. I don't like it but it is what it is, they are all looking to save their own skin. Joe isn't here to defend himself so he is the easy scapegoat.Forget the statue for now. Here are my thoughts fwiw

Jay is on the board. Do you think he knows where it is?I like it, but unless there is a very pro Joe President, the first 3 I don't see happening. I don't disagree with your suggestions, but I don't think that Dr. Bendapudi wants to spend a very large part of her first year in office defending any conclusions that are contrary to the public narrative.Forget the statue for now. Here are my thoughts fwiw

Honestly I don't see that as an obstacle. The whole thing was window-dressing from the gun. This is not to say that Dr. Bendapudi needs to acknowledge this publicly, but it's really all she needs to know in order to proceed.Neeli likely came in with a cursory understanding of the first three items, at best, and will not be brought up to speed on them (in a good way) by barren or the old-guard trustees.
We don't have to invite ESPN to the party.I don't disagree with your suggestions, but I don't think that Dr. Bendapudi wants to spend a very large part of her first year in office defending any conclusions that are contrary to the public narrative.
Excellent suggestion that has zero chanceI never liked the JoePa statue and don't want to see the original restored or placed near Beaver Stadium. However, I would like to see a statue honoring Joe and Sue inside the north entrance to Pattee/Paterno Library. I mentioned this a couple years ago, but I think a life-size statue should depict Joe tucking a football in this left arm and holding out an open book (The Aeneid) in his right, as if to say to the unforeseen looker, You read the book, and then I'll give you the football. Sue should be standing slightly behind and to the left of Joe, with her hand on his shoulder.
Maybe it's hiding in plain site, like at the entrance of the museum.
