Can we not figure out how to build a decent arena in the Jackson Metro already? Coliseum is pitiful anything other than the rodeo. I wouldn't even have WWE in there.

Since I no longer possess my prior idealism about Jackson becoming relevant again, maybe Flowood can pull this off? Unfortunately, I don't think the clientele exists in the metro to really support this as far as basketball or concerts, and the Amphitheater is probably plenty good enough for the latter.

The heyday of MS basketball may just simply be over with. Jackson is a shell of what it once was, with all the best players now out in the suburbs.

ETA: Wow at these current rankings: https://www.maxpreps.com/ms/basketball/rankings/1/?schoolid=f15465c9-1af6-431f-a5ed-883296cd9d10

Not a single Jackson public school there. Private schools, and even a homeschool group, throughout. Crazy times. Guess it's all AAU nowadays anyway, same for baseball with the travel teams.

I have heard no one wants to invest. I want Jackson to make a comeback, but an arena doesn't make much sense with the Brandon Amphitheater, State playing one game a year.

It just wouldn't be a wise investment, as you mentioned Jxn is a shell of what it was when I moved here in the mid 90s.

The Capitol Police have made a big difference (personally I'm against the State funding Jxn's LE, but it has been effective), if babychuck is in prision and we get a mayor that even vaguely cares about the city (doesn't see it as a piggy bank) and the proposed casino is built, Jxn could make a turn in 5-10 years.

You're probably right. Hard enough to get people to MSU or Ole Miss games during deer season, much less any type of event in Jackson. Just is what it is.

Ideally I'd love for State to play multiple games there, especially in the OOC season. Perhaps host some tournaments, and maybe get some NCAA games there, whether women or men. But yeah, I get it, pipe dream. Would be a nice arena downtown in the CCID, with walkable things around it. Maybe even One Lake.

Would it not be possible to play some of these games at JSU's arena? I haven't been in years but remember it being pretty decent. Thought i read somewhere they just did or are about to do a lot of renovations. Has to be better than the MS coliseum.

Good luck convincing typical MSU fans (especially ones in the Jackson Metro) to drive onto the campus of Jackson State. Jackson is a war zone, don't you know *****
