Spent the week in Grapevine and it was 107-108 every day. It was dry heat but still made my eyes water when I went outside. If Mississippi holds true to form you should expect >50% humidity too. Bless y'alls hearts.

All time record high in Starkville is 111 set back in 1930 I believe. Most of the records this time of year are 103-106 range. If this forecast verifies there could be several record highs fall this week. NWS in Jackson has said it's possible some places hit 110.

Don't get your hopes for Sept and Oct to be nice fall weather either, they'll be hotter than normal too.

I sure would like to see some of those record lows this week. And yes, I very well remember the heat wave in 1980. This heat not good on an old fat man that tried to walk 3 - 5 miles a day.

Everyone stay hydrated. I go get IV’s on occasion to help. You might want to consider it.

I'm trying to be better about having a decent fall garden this year. Struggling with getting things started (and me getting started) in this heat. You can bet we'll end up with a frost in early November to 17 up the best laid plans.

I remember 1980 had something like 18 or so straight 100+ degree days. The fan in my bedroom window of our trailer in Tallahatchie County didn’t bring in much cool air.

Also August and first half of September of 2000 were awful. I think it stayed in the 100s through mid month of September.

That's the year I was in the 8th grade and taking algebra in a classroom in south Mississippi without air conditioning or a fan. They had the windows open even though there was no breeze and to top it off, they were re-tarring the roof of the school. Horrible teacher, learning algebra, sweat literally dripping off your nose on to the book all topped off with the wonderful smell of tar. I just about lost my **** one night during that time when I saw on the national news at 5:30 that St. Louis city schools had cancelled school the rest of the week because their high temperature reached 90 degrees three days in a row.

Yeah, that isn't how climate works. Now do the year average temperature over a period of time. That is how climate works.

In the interest of expanding board knowledge, this is probably worth a read (no agenda, seriously)...
