Easy. Bartlett at 141, Van Ness at 149 , Haines at 157, and Facundo at 165. More interesting to me is 125 and 133. Howard at 125? Then who at 133?

Hopefully RBY comes back for 1 more season. That would really help himself solidify a legendary status and help our team big time. If he don’t hopefully he sticks around for the NLWC in order to compete for a gold medal. Be great to have him in the room.

Levi is still technically a HS senior, but he has been entering college open tournaments and has beaten top 25 guys. I think he can AA year one and am super excited to see him on the team next year. Now just because he would be great next year doesn't mean we will wrestle him. We should be pretty heavy favorites next year so we likely could win without him at 57, but I'm not sure what the long term vision is and if we'd need him down the line more. I'm team wrestle your best guys, but I obviously trust Cael with that call.

Van Ness has been battling injuries. He wrestled in one open early in the year and I believe aggravated an existing leg injury. Not sure if it was injury related or what, but even before he MFF'd out, he wasn't destroying people. I wouldn't bet that even with a fully healthy SVN, beau at 49 might still be the better option.

Facundo....hasn't looked great so far this season. Not sure what's up there, but he had a very lackluster scuffle performance. I'm not aware of any injuries. Going into the season I was pretty confident he'd be starting at 165 by NCAAs, but from the limited amount I saw him wrestle this year, I'm not sure that he can beat out Edsell. It's still his first year and he doesn't lack for talent. I hope we see him in the lineup and dominating next year.

Bartlett is definitely going 141. Van Ness is a special talent and 149 for sure. Haines is special as well.

That seems a tad harsh, IMHO.

He's entered three competitions as a RS freshman: the Clarion Open in Nov., the Southern Scuffle in Jan., and the Mat Town Open II in Jan. At the Clarion Open, he did quite well, winning by major, TF, or pin in all of his matches but one. That was against his highest ranked opponent, and he lost 3-2 in TB-1. His record at the Scuffle was 2-2, but it was also against the best competition he faced this season. Both his wins and his losses were by decisions, and his loses were by scores of 3-5 and 2-3; something over which I wouldn't be too concerned. At Mat Town II he won all his matches, doing so by major or by pin. He decisioned teammate Matt Lee at Mat Town, 3-2.

Does his RS season give any indication that he can be on the platform next season? No. Does it give any indication that he can be quite successful next season in PSU's lineup? Not enough data to draw conclusions either way. Does it give any indication that he can defeat Creighton Edsell for the 165 spot? Insufficient data, as they didn't face any common opponents. We have no idea how they do against each other in the room, so only time will tell.

His HS career was very impressive, and he'll have a year in PSU's room before next season. That usually (not always) is a winning combination.

Haines is a beast. 157 is in good hands. SVN and Facundo have elite pedigree. Judging them in redshirt seasons is a bit premature.

Cael is cautious with his young guys - even David Taylor red shirted year one. Haines & Facundo are studs, & proved it in tourneys, but Cael is always looking at the big picture.

From everything I’ve heard, & even his comments Sat night, RBY ain’t coming back, but will work out with the NLWC

Haines is a HS senior who moved to SC early to train, same as Nick Lee. He is entering open tournaments.

Okay. Evans may be 133 then. Will see. I’m just focused on Nationals right now. Praying to see a sea of White in Michigan. It’s going to be insane live. Nothing in the world like Nationals live. Can actually feel the intensity in the arena it’s a blast.

Yeah - it’s a blast.

With the win at B10’s the scUM bandwagon wrestling fans will likely show up for a change.

I don't think RBY has any interest in a gold medal, going mma.

problem for RBY when it comes to olympics is that he is in between weight classes-there are only 6 Olympic weights. There are international competitions that have 10 weights which would be better for him.

All fair, I may have been a bit harsh. I guess I've become too accustomed to generational greats making up ~40% of our lineup year in and year out. Is a 2-2 mark at the scuffle bad for a RS Freshman? No, but you have to admit, it's not what we've come to expect out of our blue chip recruits. His best win this year was a SV win against Wrestlestat #40 Evan Barczak, with losses to wrestlestat ranked guys #21, 49, and 53.

Conversely you had:
  • Beard 2 years ago beat a ranked Dakota Geer at his RS Scuffle and go undefeated the year before during his gray shirt taking out Chris Weiler from Lehigh
  • Joe Lee beat Jake Wentzel his RS scuffle
  • Carter won the scuffle his RS year
Facundo was the #1 guy in the class of 2021, higher than any of those guys from their respective classes. Certainly not sounding the alarm bells yet, a year in the room will be invaluable to his development. Just trying to answer the original question of why he isn't in the lineup right now and, from what I've seen, my best guess is he just isn't there yet. Not implying he won't get there, he still has a massive upside. Bo Nickal didn't have the most impressive RS year, but we all know how his career turned out.

He simply needs to focus on being more offensive. Long history of being a defensive wrestler. He will be fine. Don’t think he’ll ever be Bo, Ruth, DT, or Nolf but will hold his own in time.
